Brass gear in headlight... still making grinding noise

Hello,
about a year ago I replaced the driver side headlight motor gear with a brass one because the nylon gear had stripped and was causing a grinding sound. everything was working fine until a few days ago when the headlight started to make an identical sound. My question is has any of you experienced this problem because I am not sure what could cause this. Has any of you had the worm gear strip in the same manner. If so what is the solution. I have not checked the tabs yet to see if they have come loose. Thank you for you guys input.

I had this and all that had happened was the glue after I put the gear in had worn down so the cover plate was loose. Once I re epoxied it and made sure it had enough to hold the sound was gone. Good luck!

yea I took it apart yesterday and the expoxy had come off as well. From what I hear with the amount of pressure the motor puts on that plastic piece and the way glue sticks to the plastic, the expoxy alone is not enough. I saw on some guys website that they sell a bracket that you can place over the screws however with shipping it is $10 which is too much for a T shapped washer. I have heard of guys putting screws in to hold the plastic lid on or I might make myself a bracket. I can definately see why they got rid of the flip up lights in the new corvette. First of all a plastic gear? give me a break

You need to get the gears with the reenforment plate on it. It makes sure that if it ever comes off again, it keeps this cover in place. I went through this before and bought the plate. No more problems.

i had the same thing happen with the epoxy not holding..i went to home depot and bought a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal...made a cardboard template of the holes...drilled them...painted the metal (so not to rust)...cleaned the plastic, re-epoxied it back together and put it back together with the bracket....no problems ...when i bought the brass gear i got 2 of em .... so when i made the bracket i made two at the same time ...i knew the other gear would go and it did 2 days ago...i did not know about the bracket when i bought my gears....anyone buying brass gears should buy the gears that come with the bracket included
