Curious of which oil brand you reach for more often than not.
Do not care about synthetic/conventional or viscosity.

Orion was in charge of getting the poll up. He was late as usual. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

My "theory" on this subject is simple really. The add packs work to get/keep crap in suspension to be carried to the filter. When the oil is hot the crap is in suspension. When cold the crap has settled back down on your bearings/stuff and is not in suspension. So I drain hot.

I also buy/keep cheap oil around to flush. Usually takes a quart of cheap ass oil and everything coming out the valve is amber/gold and clean. Let it drain till the drip stops.

I have Fumota Valves on everything. I pre-fill the filter. Swab some fresh oil on the oil filter gasket and wipe down the filter housing seal.

Your really after just soaking the filter media anyway. You don't necessarily have to have fluid to the top.

i had a 96 mark viii,4.6 dohc alum.v8,ford put the filter sideways right behind the sway bar(same on 94-97 v8 thunderbirds and cougars too)you had to be a contortionist to get the filter out because there was iust enough room to get the filter in and out.come to think of it,ford made every filter except the trans filter a bitch to replace on the 93-96 mark viii.hell of a car though.

What is the benefit to pre-filling the filter?

Less time the engine is running with no oil. Takes between 5-10 seconds for an oil filter to soak and fill. 95% of your engine wear is at startup. With no oil....well you get the picture.

5-10 seconds doesnt sound like much does it? Think about how many rotations on your bearings with no oil/pressure. Grinding and scrapping.

Yeah that does make sense, I just never thought of that before. I'll definately do this every time I change my oil and filter.
