Bent Con Rod!! Why
I tore my 98 LS1 down tonight and found that the #6 rod was bent. I was thinking it was caused by a faulty injector causing a lean condition and detonating that cylinder. I spoke to my friends father who is a mechanic and he says its probably due to over revving. For one I believe the ECM shuts fuel off at 6200rpm and secondly it was in an automatic. So I kind of doubt its due to over revving. Does anyone have any idea why a con rod would get bent? I did take off the heads and there was no head gasket leak, so hydrolock is not the answer.
Thanks all.

Does the vehicle ever get wet? A leaky o-ring from the injector will allow water past it and allow the car to hydrolock the car.

I'm not sure if it had a leaky oring. I pulled the engine from a friends car because it was making a knocking sound. The cylinder is clean. There is no sign of moisture or surface rust in the cylinder. I'll check the lifters.

Water will evaporate in the chamber, basically "steam cleaning" the cylinder walls.

a collapsed lifter will not bend a connecting rod. now, if the OP is refering to the pushrod being bent, that's a different matter.

wouldn't detonation cause a bent rod? Two opposing forces.

it would have to be a huge amount. and i mean a huge amount. the head gasket would go first. i know as i've done it. after racing and popping the head gasket, i drove my car home and cracked the exhaust port. no bent rod
