    Question Battery Relocation Wiring Architecture

I’ve been reading a lot about relocating the battery to the rear of the vehicle trying to figure out the best way to wire it. I’m not interested in simply running a cable to the stock battery location then using the stock cables. I’m interested in wiring the relocation for efficiency, and without adding any unnecessary weight. My primary purpose for the relocation is weight distribution. My ’02 Z28 is street legal, but built for “road racing” (HPDEs actually). I don’t have a radio so no need to worry about sound quality. I just want years of trouble free starting and operation.

I drew up 3 basic architectures with the engine block grounded to the frame. The “a” version shows the same architecture with the engine ground running back to the battery. I’m up in the air about which way to go so I’m looking to some of you guys in the know… I’m no electrician so there could definitely be some fundamental mistakes (another reason I’m posting before wiring ). So, for those of you with some knowledge on the subject, check my work and give me your thoughts on:

    1. Safety! Is my car going to burn up?
    2. Will it get the job done?
    3. Will it cause any issues?
    4. Considering my goals, which would you choose, and why?

    Thanks!
    Mark

I'm doing the relocation on my car. I actually purchased an F-body Battery Relocation Wiring Kit from Thunder Racing. The wires are pre-cut and everything. Check it out, it was relatively cheap and you don't have to make the wires yourself.

    Thanks for the info.

I just pulled up the kit from Thunder Racing (Taylor 48000) and it looks like it only includes the cable to the starter and the ground cable from battery to chassis... is that true? The instructions on Taylor's site only reference these two cables as well. Maybe I'm missing it(?)

These two connections are pretty straight forward. It's the others that I'm most curious about. Are they included in your kit?? Which kit do you have?

    Thanks,
    Mark.

My bad...it was the Tick Performance Kit (wrong "T" company).

It is a lot more involved and comes with a cutoff switch (something I need for drag racing). I'm not sure if that is something you want or not.

Ok, cool... that looks more like it. Looks like my diagram 2 above (except for the switch as you mentioned). Thanks!
