Battery cable help......
My positive battery cable was corroded and I cleaned it last month and used vaseline afterwards. This morning car was dead again. I had to re-clean with battery spray, scubed everything and it is all good now.
However, behind the positive bolt, where it screws into the battery, the metal is really disolved, just leaving the screw to go into the battery. I screwed everything in but I wonder if it will last long this way??
When I was in Kragen, a guy told me that I can actually cut the positive cord at the base of the boot and wrap it around this metal piece. The piece then has a brand new screw that goes into the battery.
Has anyone ever tried this??? Do you actually cut the positive lead right under the boot part? Would this work?

Sounds like you might need a new battery and cable. Wouldnt be too hard to fix. A battery cable is only about 15 bucks. I would rather be 100% sure my caar is goign to start, than have to worry about it.

The battery cable is cheap. It looks like a nightmare to swap though!!
How much would a garage charge me to sap out a new positive cable cord??
I honestly wont attempt to try.

According to my books, a shop will charge around 0.7 hours to replace that battery cable. So just times that by what your shops hourly rate is (most likely around $60/hour)
Well worth in im my opinion.

I appreciate your help, I will call my fav garage shop on Monday.
I agree, even though it looks good, Id rather have 100% piece of mind. Dont want to get stranded again from a lack of good contact on the battery.

I would cut the wire behind the clamp and goto autozone and pick up a new terminal and crimp it back on, should fix the problem, unless the battery itself is leaking acid which is eating away at your cable.
