If it's the front o2's then yea....if the car even runs it could run really rich or very lean. The rear o2's no...they're there to check the funtioning of the cats. I've heard some people say the comp might pull timing if you have any ses light...but it's not true IMO. I had the 420 code for 3 months until I put new cats in...didn't notice any power loss

I had an SES light come on telling me my cats were bad. I pulled the rear (drivers) O2 and it was pitch black with soot (cars been running very rich). Since I replaced the O2 about a year ago I figured what the hell, lets try to clean it. So I spraying it down with carb cleaner trying to shoot it in the slits. It has been a month and the light hasn't come back on. I'm sure the front O2's are completely clogged possibly giving me a rich condition.

A failed o2 sensor takes a lot of power from the car, because basically you are messing with the most integral thing, the air to fuel ratio. If the o2 is slow to respond, or stuck high or low, it's going to make the car run across the board rich or lean...gas mileage will suffer, it can even get as bad as causing a large random cylinder misfire to where the car can barely get out of its own way.

tell me if this is true or not. I've heard it is bad to replace the fronts with aftermarkets because the readings will be slightly different than a GM sensor (which is made by probably the same people). Also, what about cleaning them?

all I know is that if the o2 sensor is bad on most cars, the car will tend to PING... I've never heard of a car mis-firing because of that... but I haven't heard of everything, obviously...

Depends on how bad the O2 sensor is as to what symptoms it can give.If it's "pinging", then the engine is running really lean.Take it out to it's extreme of failure and you would have misfire. It can be slow to respond or it can completely fail, and that would give very different symptoms.

I sprayed carb cleaner into the slits trying to get it in there. Who knows how well it worked, but for a sensor running 60-70 bucks I figured it would be worth a shot.
