ASR and ABS idiot lights GONE

    Just bought a 2000 Z/28 with 70000 on it.
The previous owner originally said a sensor on
the rear end was bad causing both asr and abs lights to come
on. Told him I'd by the car if he fixed the sensor which he claimed he
did. Well, I bought the car and a week later it rained and the car
slid and spin out. Then I locked up the brakes and no ABS!! Don't
know what he did and he's playing stupid. The fuses and relays are
all in place. Does anyone have an idea what this clown might of
done to get the idiotslights not to work?

asr and abs isn't going to stop you from spinning/sliding... if you have asr and it's on you won't be able to do a burn out... if it's off you'll be able to... if the car doens't have it you're a lucky person... because they are junk!!!

To make sure the lights are working turn the ignition to on. They should both light up.

I knew that lights should go when you 1st turn ignition on. They don't light. It does have ASR button on dash but nothing happens when you push it. Not too worried bout spinning tires but would like to have ABS braking. Mostly because I have teen TRIPLETS and one already totaled out a 1995 Camaro.

Seems like someone pulled the bulbs to fix the problem then. I have had mine go on and I just cleaned the wheel sensors and it went away. To get the codes you need a special scanner. Check the bulbs first.

When you do get your bulbs back in and working, ASR light will be on anytime the ABS INOP light is on. ASR is not functional if the ABS is inoperable. Therefore, start to diagnose the ABS problem first. More than likely once you fix the ABS issue, your ASR light will go off as well.

ABS issue: check to make sure all the wheel sensors are clean and plugged in first. This is free and the easiest thing to check. Next thing to check would be fuses and to make sure all the wiring is intact and nothing is pinched or damaged.

Like the other person said, you need a high-end scanner to scan ABS. A dealership can scan the code for you, but you will have to pay them some coin, unless you know someone. I would ask a mechanic first. The snap-on and other similar scanners have the ABS module.

Pepboys, Autozone, etc scanners are only OBDII scanners. They will NOT read ABS codes unfortunately.

    Keep us updated.

Thanks for all the help. Did take it to dealer and scanned it but no codes. Guess I should start by pulling dash gauge cluster out to see if the bulbs were pulled out. What a mope if he did that!

THe button to turn the ASR on and off has a light as well. Does that come on or no?

if the lights dont come on when the key is first turned on the bulbs themselves are out. when the lights stay on or flash, a code is being stored or there is a problem with the system, just for future reference.

So, did you pull the cluster to check for missing bulbs? Does the SES light flash when you first start it?

Will pull cluster out this week. If he did pull bulbs out, watch the local news for a bizarre incident where a man is hospitalized for light bulbs shoved up every orifice he has!

I think those lights are LEDs and don't pull. I could be wrong, but sounds like that or he put tape across the holes for the lights.
