    Anyone have an idea?

i just got my engine rebuilt well "remanufactured" and i have the warranty and im gonna take it to the place to have them check it out/fix it buti figured id see if anyone has an idea.... when i start my car...theres this cracking noise coming from what sounds like around the belt... now, when i turn on the A/C it squeaks and the crackling stops, but when the heat is on OR when both heat and A/C are turned off the noise comes back... really strange, really annoying, really beat considering i got my car back 4 days ago...

oh yeah and i just put on a new belt about a month or two ago, but when they were putting the engine back in they told me that it was noisy and they had to put a new belt on.... i took a look at my belt that was taken off and it was perfectly fine...

    any ideas appreciated

ImportKiller24 it sound like the bearing in either the Alternator or the Serpentine tensioner, remove the belt and spin both and listen for the noise, good luck hope this helps...

use a long handled screwdriver as a poor mans "stethoscope". Put your ear to the handle of the screwdriver then touch it to everything up there until you find the culprit making the racket. Proven method. Just don't get your hair or face caught in the belt......it'll leave a mark.

I've seen a lot of the ac belt tensioners do this. Since it changes with the a/c and it has a seperate belt, you may want to check it out.

ive been told by the mechanics its a bad belt tensioner. the problem is there is two kinds... main drive and A/C....can anyone tell which one it is just by the information of when the noise is on and off

    [A/C on.....................noise off]
[A/C off OR Heat on.....noise on]
