Anyone experience this?
I have a 2000 WS6 with m6 and about 43000 miles. It does not get driven very much, maybe 2000 miles a yr if that. I had taken it to visit friend about 3 hours away. Ran fine whole way there and all wkend. When I left on Sunday to go home and accelerated on onramp to interstate and shifted to third the car just fell on its face. It didn't misfire or die it just acted like the throttle wasn't connected. I wasn't getting on it, just accelerating normally. Then it came back and ran normal the rest of the way home.
After getting home and driving it around the area it did it one other time. It reminds me of how a car acts when it runs out of gas, but I have no codes being thrown and it makes me nervous to take it very far. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to test the fuel pump to see if it is starting to fail? Thanks for any advice.00 T/A WS6 - "a few mods"

How old is the gas in there?

I had burned out the tank that was in there and filled up with fresh gas while in Monee, IL before heading home. Also, I had put another fresh tank in after arriving home before it happened the second time.

How long had it sat with the old fuel in it? Could be a clogged filter?

yep, start with the filter first and if that doesn't fix it I would start looking at that fuel pump. Put a pressure gauge on it so that when it does it you can see what your fuel pressure is doing.

Roger. Is there a port off of the fuel rail that I can hook a mechanical gauge to?

Yea, just unscrew the cap on front of the driver side fuel rail and there will be a schrader valve. Remove that and you can connect a gauge to it. Most would advise not to use a mechanical gauge inside the car though...
Also, it sounds like its quite possible a fuel issue, but clogged cats will also do some odd stuff. My friends truck did the same thing and then after a little while, it just started being sluggish all the time. He pretty much had to have his foot to the floor just to accelerate with the traffic. We tried the usual as well first. Checked the air filter obviously, changed the fuel filter, ran it for codes, thought it could possibly be the fuel pump as well. His dad ended up taking it to a shop to get it fix. They ended up thinking it was the fuel pump as well, and replaced that, then it started the same thing when he pulled out the parking lot with it. What really sucked was even though they replaced the fuel pump ($900 I think) which wasn't the problem, they refused to do anything about the $900s he didn't have to spend...Last edited by squee; 02-02-2009 at 09:07 PM.

I think the point here is it can be a few things. You'll just have to start diagnosing it. Since the car is parked a lot it could even be mice making a home somewhere with the wires as bedding. The logical place for me to start would be the fuel pressure as that's what it really sounds like it is to me. Like was previously mentioned there's a shrader on the end of the fuel rail. When you buy a gauge make sure you get one with the correct fitting for it. I would maybe even take the car up there and open the gauge in the parking lot to make sure it'll work.

Sounds like a partially clogged fuel filter.
