looking at buying an 02 Firehawk that was a factory buyback in 2002. i guess it has/had issues with the block pitting. i'm going to look at it tomorrow so what ever you can find would help.

well, i was lucky enough to find the 2nd owner's phone number off of the gm buyback disclosure form (the dealer posted pics of it on their website) and i called him.... it seems that a GM employee bought the car new in 2002 and was able to get GM to buy back the car because of the pitting or what ever on the block. the guy i spoke with owned the car and said he never had one issue with it however it sat most of the time (it only has 6k miles on it) and he never even saw where this "pitting" was on the block. the title has a blemish on it stating that the car had warranty issues and that blemish will stay with the car for the rest of it's life.

I do not have much more info on it but was hoping somebody could check to see what was done to the car by GM after they bought back the car. if i am lucky i will be able to pick up a 2002 Firehawk M6 with only 6k on the clock for around $16k. they are asking for more but since the title is blemished there is room to wiggle. the dealer is an hour away from me so i'm going to make the drive in the morning and they are going to put it up on a lift so i can go over it with a fine tooth comb. the major areas i will be looking at will be near any seal/gasket to make sure there is no pitting/corrosion in these areas.

WTF would it be a fleet car for? what rental or company would buy a $35-$38k car for that purpose? and what damn clout would they have to get GM to buy back a car that cost sooo much that seems to have not needed any work done??? this keeps getting better and better! lol

well, i guess demo would go along with what the last owner told me to some degree (that it was owned by an employee)

2002 according to firehawk.org SOM is the most rare at 100 followed by white 104, pewter 117, silver 131 and to contrast black 540.

don't think there is anything special about silver. i don't hate silver but if the car was black, red or SOM i'd be really drooling!

if it were not for the blemish on the title this car would go for $25k easy, maybe closer to $30k with only 6k miles.

they were but now those go for ~$200k just because they were VERY rare and were the fastest production car in the US at the time. a loaded 02 WS6 was around $32k. Firehawk option was ~$4k more.. i think this car was $36k-$38k new.
