    Another "Oil Help" thread

I've got a 99 ws6 with 130k miles. Guy I bought it from said it was rebuilt but I really don't think it has been cause there is a bad intake valve in cylinder 7. I was wondering what oil you would recommend? I don't think I should use any oil that has a bunch of cleaning additives because then it would clean the junk up that the engine has sealed itself with, so i"ve been using Mobil 1 Clean 5000. The car had Rotella 15w40 in it beforehand. I live in Southern Missouri so the weather really isn't too harsh. Summer is full of 85-95 degree days and the temps now are around 60 in the morning and 80+ in the afternoon. Thank you for the help!

There are a ton of stickys floating around about which weight of oil to use personaly i just use 5W-30. Brand is your choice.
If the previous owner "rebuilt" the engine they might not have touched the heads. Some people just do have butted work.
Why did he rebuild? do you know

I'm assuming he did the rebuild while he installed the ls6 head/cam...if it was even rebuilt. The guy I bought it from didn't actually rebuild the engine, it was the guy he bought it from. I've tried looking for the casting numbers on the heads but I absolutely cannot find them.

I would run a 10w30 and casting number on the head is easy there should be a number on the passenger side head right in front below the valve cover. if it has ls6 heads 243 stock would 853 i think.

Nope, I looked again and absolutely can't find the numbers. Are they one the front of the head by the intake or below the coils?

10w is the viscosity when cold. Oil is used for lubrication all that additive stuff just takes place of what should be lubricating your internals. Sarge has mentioned stuff you use every oil change but you should look it up and decide for yourself. Mobil isn't what it used to be penzoil platinum and amsoil are supposed to be great. Amsoil is a sponsor here I am sure he gives you a deal if you buy straight from him.

My heads are black and where the casting number should be the paint is chipped... I even got a flashlight and mirror out to look at the back of the heads underneath the dash and there wasn't anything on that side either. There is a black, little oblong looking cirlce sitting there but there isn't any numbers on it tho..
