Mine was doing this a couple of weeks ago. It was random as to when it decided to go off though. It ended up being the door switches/sensor that control the lights.

Not to Jack the thread but my car alarm goes off when I unlock it with the key. Would the fix be similar to the OP's or something else?

when you unlock the door with the key you have 8 seconds to put the key in the switch our the alarm will go off

True if your not using the key fob to unlock it.

So that is normal when not using the key fob? Guess I need to get a new key fob then. I just thought my key was tripping the security system or something.

This happens because the act of unlocking the door with the key is mechanical not electronic.. After the aloted time, the alarm triggers incase the lock had been punched by a theif... Get a new battery for your fob and go from there..
