    Are AIR Pumps Serviceable/Rebuildable

Mine makes a squeaking sound as it spins down when the engine is shut off. Can they be oiled or something?

Are you sure that's what's making the sound? Air pump is electrically operated and shouldn't run continuously. Pull the AIR PUMP fuse under the hood and see if the squeaking is still there - it'll throw the SES light but go back off after replacing it and a few cycles.

Yep, it's the AIR pump. It takes about 15 seconds for the squeaking sound to stop. It's like a turbo spinning down after the engin is turned off. It's really more like that "birdie" chirp you hear from a rotating shaft that needs oil. I just figured I could pull the pump and oil it if this is even possible.

My air pump only runs at start-up for about 1 minute and then shuts itself off-haven't heard it running any other time.It sounds like a vacuum cleaner and doesn't take 15 seconds to wind down-more like 2-3 seconds. You pull it off and you still have the cats you will burn them up in short order.I live in an area where you can't remove the emissions control stuff-if you can then have fun-but what about resale? I'm thinking you are actually hearing the radiator fan but?..........
