AC Replacement cost?
My AC has been gone for a while now and since its getting to be summer time I was wondering how much it would cost to have a shop replace it? Compressor and everything.
Thanks

I had to replace mine on my blazer and it was right around $600 so I would guess right around there.

Not sure what you mean by "been gone for a while now" If it just stopped working might be something easy - I'd bring it to a couple shops and let them diagnose/give you an estimate.

Sorry for not explaining in a little more detail.
My AC still puts out some cold air but not nearly as much as it used too. I also noticed that when ever I turn it on that I hear a clicking noise coming from the compressor area(I haven't been able narrow it down yet but I think its from the clutch) and I always find oil leaking from the compressor.

It is low on refrigerant and the compressor will cycle due to low low side pressure that is probably the noise you are hearing. Take it to a shop to do an ac service $100-$150 and inject dye then find the leak with uv light and fix that. very expensive to replace everything especially an evaporator core in which the entire dash must come out. If oil is leaking from the compressor thats probably your problem. the last compresssor job i did was around $550

My compressor blew and sprayed gray sticky metal shaving everywhere including the whole Ac system. I priced 7 shops here in the area and prices were from $950-$1300. My local Chevy dealer quoted me $1030 to replace everything and flush the whole system.

did you guys use a recharge kit on your AC? if you do do NOT over fill or you'll destroy your compressor... some jerk off did that to my truck back when i used to be a truck driver...

a new compressor alone is $300 plus labor. not to mention cost of freon and the a/c lines and all that

mine clicks recently too, but usually has more of a loud rattle sound to it. happens 95% of the time I turn it on, but sometimes doesn't. cold air comes in fine though. I'm hoping this doesn't cost $1k because here it gets over 100 and has extremely high humidity. ac isn't an for me, especially with black leather.

If you get it fixed before the compressor fails and contaminates the entire system them you should be able to get by with just replacing the compressor and that’s it. That should not run more then $450 or so.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully it isn't too bad and I only have to replace the compressor. Im going to hopefully take it some time in the next few weeks when I can finally get the money together and find a decent shop. Its only a weekend car so I just won't use the ac until then or I just won't drive it.
I will let you guys know.
