AC Belt Delete

Hey guys,
My AC has been screwed for 2+ years and I always drive with my windows down to hear the beast roar B-)
Anyway, I cut off the AC belt and I do notice.a slight increase in throttle response
My main question is; driving without the AC belt wont hurt anything correct?
Also, why do people get an AC delete pulley?
If they want to stop parasitic power loss from the AC how come they just don't take the belt off like I did? Correct me if im wrong but the AC uses its own belt and powers nothing else right? So why do people get the delete pulley o_O?

your good, a lot of guys remove the belt while at the track.

the answer to the delete ? The AC still runs off the main serpentine drive pulley. This is how it is able to turn, the ac belt only powers the ac.

Only reason to delete the pulley is because they delete the whole ac system to cut down on weight.

So you're saying if I were to delete the whole AC system I would need a pulley?? Why is that? Apparently the vehicle runs perfectly fine without the belt
Can't you just take it all off and call it a day?
I still don't understand lol
Is there a gaping hole left that is crucial to cover up or something? I doubt it...

Isn't is just going to be a separate belt spinning on a pulley serving absolutely no purpose at all?? Why bother leaving it on? That's my question

Nevermind I confused myself I see what you're saying....
So instead of getting a shorter serpentine belt they just get a pulley for the main belt
I thought the AC only ran off of the shorter belt

But to clarify it wont hurt anything to run without the AC belt right

I think you are still confused.

IMHO - I think GM realized ahead of time that ppl are going to run these at the track. So instead of tying it into all one serpentine belt they split off the ac so that those that do can remove the belt when at the track and reinstall when done. Also being able to remove the ac belt removes a major drag on the motor if the ac clutch goes out. If it seizes it can make it hard for the motor to run or start.

COrrect removing it just means you can't run ac, however you can still use heat.

After removing the A/C belt you do not need to do anything else.

Actually I live down here in Houston TEXAS
it gets up to 100 in the summer and I've been driving like that for 2+ years... daily driver
Just roll your windows down and take the t tops off if you wish
I think we just all got spoiled with AC and the breeze you get while driving isn't enough

I was going to say, our summers are just as hot as yours lol. Plenty of weeks in triple digits and the humidity here is always high.

I live in Mobile, yeah its just as hot but we seem to get an crap load of rain then any one else does. So it's not uncommon for me to drive 20 miles stop and have to put the tops on drive another 5-10 and I'm out of the storm.

Not saying we have the market on hot summers it just we seem to have more consistent days of them temps. Yesterday was 73* after this storm front past it dropped to 45* then down to 36* this morning, now back up to 58*

You can still run the defroster -- you simply will not have dry cool air available.

Hmm, this brings up a question. I've been running on the defrost with feet heat setting, the temp is set all the way to hot. Is that engaging the compressor? May be wasting some gas here.
