ABS, BRAKE, and ASR lights coming on

This has been a problem for a while so I had the car scanned and the following code showed up: C0550 Electronic Control Unit Malfunction. Thats what the Genisis scanner said. The shop guy said there are two boxes for the ABS, a hydraulic and an electric one and the electric one is bad. What do you guys think???

I am far from an expert in vehicle matters, however it sounds like your vehicle's computer went south, and needs to be replaced. It is located on the passenger side firewall.

Your mechanic is dead on. The EBCM is internally bad.

You had (2) codes if I remember right. One was for the R/R wheel speed sensor and the other was for the EBCM.

    Right answer, WRONG computer.....

The ABS EBCM (Anti-lock Brake System Electronic Brake Control Module) is the comp needing replaced.... It is located on the driverside,

While this is an LT1 car, the EBCM is in the same spot. Notice the Blue wiring connector...

The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is the one on the pass firewall....

your mechanic said that and he might correct, but I wouldn't be surprised if you had 2 problems.

So, Im guessing its not the box on the inner frame rail below the front sway bar that has the big electrical plug on it. Its the 4 way abs module that the brake lines run from to the calipers??? The local guy said he's changed out one or the other before and almost always had to go back and do the other one also. Sounds like an extra $1000 to me but he's been totally honest with me on other problems before.

he also had a R/R speed sensor code IN ADDITION to the EBCM code.

If it were me, and I had to drop $1000 on a new computer, I would be ditching the ABS.

your EBCM is bad and needs replaced. there are two of them, with and without ASR{traction control} the dealer wants about $400 for the part alone.
find the one you need on Flea-bay. I payed $40 for the EBCM and the BPMV, the other half.
they are plug and play so you dont have to program.

It happens sometimes. I've seen the hydraulic side leak brake fluid inside onto the electronic side, but you'd never know until you separate the two.

The same thing happened to my camaro with all 3 lights coming on. I switched the ABS module from my other camaro to the one acting up and that's how i determined what it was. I got mine used from a pick-and-pull for about $120

Goin to fle-bay and see what I can get. If not there I dont think I will be paying alot for the module since my car has driven fine with it bad so far, I do however, realize the abs wont work when the lights are on. Thats really the only reason for even considering replacing it. Thanks guys...
