98 Z LS1 owner
I just registered to this site in hopes of getting some ideas to enhance my performance on my car. I have added the easy things so far, MAF, Hypertech programmer, gears, and lid. I would like to refresh my entire motor, but i dont have a lift to take the motor out. Has anyone taken the motor out with out dropping it out? Thanks

Welcome! How many miles do you have? And what do you want to want to refresh? Rebuilds are expensive.

First thing, put the stock maf back in. Take out the tuning from HPIII.
You can pull the engine from the top with a engine hoist.Black 1999 Blown Convertible A4

Any particular reason to take the tuning of and MAF? Just got it....I eventually would like to get the STS turbo kit with 8.5 comp stroked with decent heads and cam. I have just ordered the msd coils, wires and plugs. I have 82,000 on the car oil pressure seems low at idle 20-30.

The tuning usually makes your car detonate. The stock MAF is plenty for a stock car.
Put it this way, I am still running my stock MAF, coils, wires. And put out over 600 rwhp.
What are your plans for the car?

The one thing this site has to offer you are thousands of people that have "been there..done that". The best advice I can give you is to read through as many posts as you can before buying more parts. Get some goals for the car planned and read and see what success or lack of people have had with certain mods. It'll save you a lot of money and headaches.

Make sure you set the car back to stock tune before you sell the Hypercrap. Yea, maf can cause detonation, it did for me. Is it an automatic or a manaul? Definately do some gears, and if its a auto you need a torque converter. If you are taking the engine out, definately to heads, cam, headers, and change your plugs while you are at it.

Its an auto and I have 4.11 gears in it now. I was thinking about selling the hypertech and purchasing a laptop tuner but it looks intimidating....I was a carb guy

Eh, put all the mods in and just pay for it to be dyno tuned, you wont regret it.

When you get to the part where you going to change the cam just remember to put in a new oil pump. The stock one is alrite doing simple mods but if your planning on really picking up the power level I'd get a ported LS6 oil pump. That should solve your oil pressure.
