87 gn
Guy I work with has an 87 GN and is losing volt when you try to start it. He has rebuild the motor. New everything. He drove the car about a 1000 miles and it shut off and now wont start. We tested the voltage going to the coil and is only getting 9 when you start the car. It has 12 until you turn the key. Just wondering if anyone has run into this problem.

Maybe a rusted/broken ground somewhere under the hood?

Dont know he said was driving it and it shut off. Scanned with a tech1 and it said pcm was done so he put a new one it but didnt change the proms out. We scanned it last week with the tech1 and he isnt getting cam or crank signal to the pcm.

Sounds like a short somewhere going to the PCM. Maybe an exposed wire?

Yea when the car died on him he rebuilt the motor, trans and upgraded the turbo. All new wiring. He just didnt put new proms in so they will be here Friday. LOL Thats all that is left to replace. If that doesnt do it then we start over looking at the wiring again.

Sounds like something is wired backwards, if I recall correctly you are supposed to get 12 volts when the key is turned to START then drops off to 8-9 volts to run.
