as far as i know the 8.1 was used in HD trucks/ RVs / tow trucks / stuff like that, its the biggest GAS engine GM offers i think

8.1 is a 496 and is the last Big Block GM had. Its a big block so it might not fit too well in your SS.

black- 2000 camaro ss
cutlass is right its a 496ci. I have one in my 2500hd with a 6speed . I doubt it would ever fit (its huge). It would crush your springs and the cooling system would never work right. sounds pretty cool though

Custom headers and a motor plate and it'll fit in there. Here Richie's (Stein?) 632...

Because a turbo diesel would murder almost every car on this board apart if it was in a F-Body. Weight wouldn't really matter straight line but would hurt the car in corners. It would be sooooooo bad ass!!!!!!

do some frame mods, and imagine seeing an f-body haul a HUGE trailer down the freeway.

I once had a friend who put a 454 out of a Suburban into an s10. Great idea in theory, not so great in execution. You don't go very fast in a straight line if you can't get the tires to connect with the pavement.
Are there any videos of large bore diesels in F-bodies or vettes that are actually under power and not just idiling down a road?
That I would like to see.
