6.0 LS2 in 98+ Firebird
I'd like to look into getting a 98+ LS1 firebird. I'd like to swap in a 6.0L LS1 at some point. What I'd like in the LS2 is to have both E85 and DoD capabilities. First, what would the challenges be for swapping in a 6.0 LS1 into a car that had an LS1? If/when I do it, I'd like an Aluminum block. I'm guessing i'd have to do some custom swapping to get the DoD hardware (some parts off . Besides the ECM (I'm guessing probably the E40 like found in the GTO) and T42 TCM, What other hardware would probably be required for the E85 support? I haven't found a stock tune for a 6.0 LS2 that has DoD enabled, but I have found 5.3L tunes (using the same E40 ECM) that DO have DoD enabled. Any ideas if it would be possible to use the 5.3L DoD components on the 6.0 Engine?
Right now, it's a bit of a "dream", but I'd like to learn as much as possible for the if/when I can actually make it a reality.

LS2's didn't have Dod L76's do though and I think some of the L92's are now getting it though all 3 of which are 6.0. The L92 and L76's also have variable timing as well and there is a flex fuel option as well I think.

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
L92= 6.2 403 HP Escalade Engine
L76= 6.0 361 HP G8 GT Engine
Both use the same heads as the LS3 (6.2 430 HP)
But the L76 will run on 87 octane.
The biggest hurdle in installing one of these engines in a F-body is the 58x reluctor on the crankshaft, F-bodies use a 24X. There are some harness changes also due to the relocation of some sensors but there are companies that sell plug in extensions now.
Since your going to change out the entire harness anyway to run DOD this shouldn't be a problem.Craig

WHY DOES THIS SOUND LIKE AN EXTREMELY GREAT IDEA??? wonder if the extra mpg would be worth it??

There's some hardware involved for DoD. Not sure what exactly. EFILive states " The engine must also have the DOD mechanical components for DOD to function, not all GenIV engines have this fitted." That's why I was wondering if it would be possible to use the DoD hardware from a 5.3 on a 6.0. I'm also curious if newer Gen-IV engine migh have the parts but have it disabled? Yes, I'd plan on changing the entire harness and using the LS2 ECM (Probably an E40) and TCM (T42).

i think even with DOD you wont get better gas mileage than a stock LS1 with M6 on the highway ....
as far as modified engines with DOD goes, could be worth it i guess....

also from what i've seen cars with this DOD , either chevy dodge, w/e they still suck down gas like crazy ie 22 mpg highway with DOD.......
