    4L60E to 4L80E

I'm wondering if anyone knows if a 4L80E will fit in my 2001 camero SS without mods? Also is there a advantage in swaping to a 4L65E?

The 80 has a longer tailhousing and will require relocation of the torque arm bracket or a different arm I think. And unless you're making big horsepower, an 80 may be too much tranny. But not really sure. Was thinking on it myself last month when I had to rebuild my 60, again....

The 4L80 swaps have been done into 4th gens. It requires some fab work. I thought the original PCM could be programmed to run it too with minimal work, but I can't remember exactly. It's been a few years since I've seen it done.
There are plenty out there, just not sure if any of them are on this board. Frost might be a good person to ask as I'm sure he has tuned such a combo before. There were several of them running around Cinci about 6-7 years ago when I was living there.

They are excellent trannies out of the box with a much better gear spread for drag racing.

After a quick drive down the road again I have noticed that the transmission is not going to 4th at all, it stays in 3rd but when I back off the gas peddel the engine drops in rpm and seems to be free wheeling until I push the gas again. I can feel the TCC enguage but not sure if it's completely locked.rpms dont seems to change much at all if any.

Trans fluid level is critical with the 4l60e.

Have you checked it while the car is hot and running?

Side note. It's Camaro, not "Camero".

From what I understand the 4l80e is a good trany, but as FBJ says some fab work will be required amoung other things.

I believe you'll have to modify the tunnel aswell.
