    4.8 swap

Hows it goin everyone im new ta this forum but i know theres a lot a good mechanics out there that know alot more than i do and i was hoping ta pick some of that information up.

So i have an 87 el camino. The motor is a relitivly stock 350 from a 75 k20 with 193 heads a 450 lift 217 dur cam from comp i think an eddlebrock performer aluminum intake and a performer 600 cfm carb. Im alIso running single 3 inch exhaust with no cat and the origional 305 manifolds.

Farther back i have a deul fed mvb th350, a spooled ford 9inch with 2.50:1 ratio which will be getting changed to 3.77:1 or higher later on.

So here is my question i have acess to a dirt cheep 4.8 ls1 complete with harness and comp. Would i see any power ganes from swaping this engine in and if so what would it act like i know the 4.8 is only rated at like 285hp but i honestly have no idea how much power my old tired small block is putting out all i know is i got smoked at a red light the other day bu a stock crv and she is a wicked dog off the line do to the gears. Its from an 03 i think chevy 1500 stretch cab short bed pick up. Should i jump on rhis motor or should i hang out till a 5.3 or 6.0 comes along which is what my original plain was.

Thanks guys any imput you can give me will be much appreciated

Stay with the 6.0 plan. while 4.8's are ok, it would be IMHO underpowered for the weight to HP ratio of the El Camino. Meaning it will be slightly better then the 350 sbc but not by much. Hell that 350 might be more in HP then the 4.8.

6.0's are getting very affordable vs LS1/2/6 motors.
