My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
3200RPM, temp gauge flat lines & engine bogs out
at 3200RPM my temp gauge flat lines and the engine bogs out. WTF? My 2000 ws.6 M6 has been in hybernation for a few months now. zboner and i changed the oil and were bleeding the brakes on sunday. I let the car warm up to normal temp, then took it for a test drive. I went easy on it then finally took it past 2000rpm and when i hit 3200 the temp flat lined and the engine bogged like it lost fuel? it lurched hard forward then regained momemtum @ 4000....ok, go.

Probably bad fuel from being stored....put some fuel system cleaner in there. Did you add stabilizer before being stored?
The temp gauge flat line is prob from the engine actually dying for a sec and the gauges lost power...just a guess thoughLast edited by SeVeReDiStOrTiOn; 02-12-2006 at 06:13 PM.

temp gauge was the only one that moved though. everything else was online [fuel/battery] also the car was started and warmed up once a week since thanksgiving. no on the stabilizer...i guess some fuel cleaner/new gas wouldn't hurt.

also, wierd thing; while driving at one point, the temp gauge was flat lined, all of a sudden it jumped up to read standard temperature-i threw caution to the wind, put the car in neutral and reved the engine to 5K. it never bogged at 3200 again??

good point, but once while it was neutral, standing still, temp @ flat line, it bogged down @ 3200. I'm really thinking this has something to do with the temp gauge

ECT sensor/connector/wiring? That's the only thing I can think of.

Well....if a tstat is stuck closed then you get no coolant to the block...a big ol bubble goes past your temp sending unit (air lock) and your temp gauge flat lines.....ain't a computer thing...it is a mechanical thing....at idle and engine at op temps....feel the hose at the top going into the block prior to the tstat...if it is hard...the tstat is closed....if you cannot squeeze it.....it may be intermittent.....

got word back from the techs: they said it was a bad connector from the temp gauge to the engine. also said i was low on coolant sweet, hope it's nothing more. still I should get that 160 t-stat though. I'm sure i can bolt that up though.
