243 top end on 6.0 or 6.2 towing and compression questions.

My 07 Avalanche had oil pressure issues and turns out the cam bearings are walking out on the 5.3. If I have to pull it out, I want to put more displacement back in with the idea of pulling the boat, or occasionally my 71 monte. I do not care about top end or peak numbers. I want to build something with some snort. With low RPM velocity in mind for torque, should I keep the 243 top end and internals and put them on a 6.2 block? There are some around I can get a hold of. If I go this way, what am I shooting for on compression? 9.5? I run 87 most of the time. is the stock cam profile about as good as it gets for pulling stuff? I'd expect to buy a set of pistons and cam and move the rest over to a freshened up 6.0 or 6.2. Not after a stroker.

    Thanks a lot.

    I have a 403 (LQ4 block bored 4.005") Stroker with 243 heads and a Polluter stg 3 cam.

Currently at 405 rwhp and tq thru an 8.8 4.11 gr rear. My CR is 11.4 - 1 on 93 Octane.

It snappy in the torque, I blow thru 1st gear easy, 2nd a little better, in 3rd and 4th it pulls like a freight train.

So I can say you're on the right track. You can talk with just about any cam builder, Tick, CompCams, Brian Tooley, Martin Smallwood, and tell them what you're looking to build. They can suggest more specifically what cam profiles will get you the tq you're needing.

When I can afford to get some aftermarket heads I get more of the 403, I'm at least leaving 70-100 hp off the table by running the stock 243 heads.
