    2001 SS:belts squeaking

I'm new to the forum guys, i just got my SS about 2 weeks ago. i'm a tad bit of a noob.

My serpentine belt had been squeaking rather annoyingly the past few days. it does not change when i turn the air on, and also gets worse when i lube the belts with WD-40. It is always present, at idle and on throttle.

I believe it could be the Belt tensioner pulley.

    Any help guys?

    thanks

WD 40 is lame try pb blaster or Sea foam they make a good lube. spry on all your pullys. See if the belt is loose also could be the belt tensioner is going.

There is a separate belt for the AC compressor -- that's why it does not make any difference when you engage the system. Some belts just tend to be noisy. Assuming your accessory drive system and other components are in good shape go get a Goodyear Gatorback at the parts store.

The type of belt often has a lot to do with squeaking. The only ones that work for me for instance are AC Delco.

Generally if you put a little (very little) WD 40 on the lower pulley groove it should stop the noise (at least temporarily) if it is the belt. If not, it is probably the idler or tensioner pulley.

The best way to try to track it down is with a stethoscope, but if you don't have one try a belt first, then the pullies.

Mine squeals but only when it is raining. Silicone spray and I'm good. I have to replace mine soon as well.
