Smile 2000 Trans Am WS6 Convertible

    Hello all,

New to the forum! Recently acquired a 2000 TA WS6 Convertible. I bought it for my wife actually! She loves it! It has 54k miles on it. When I drive it, it feels like it could use more power (just my opinion!). I love driving it! We already drove it over 1000 miles in 4 months!

My question is, what would you all recommend to raise the power slightly (maybe to over 400rwhp or so)? It already has the SLP exhaust (Sounds very healthy), and the SLP airbox. I was thinking of doing a set of heads (5:1) and maybe cams (234/240), but not sure.

Really appreciate any feedback on what I can manage, within a budget of about $2500.

    Thanks!

With your budget and goals a set of heads, cam and tune is possible.

Just got to warn you with increase performance you'll start to find the weakest link in the drive train and suspension.

Depending on how much an increase you may have to upgrade the stall convertor if it's an automatic.

Are you doing the work yourself or having a shop do it?

Have never done this on an LS1, but will try and do myself. It is an automatic. I am more of a diesel tech, but I know if I take my time, I will do this right, just need some guidance. Thanks!

Head and cam are not difficult.

I say this half joking half serious. When you pull tge cam don't look at the cam bearings unless you have signs of material in the oil or filter. Some say it's superstitious that if you look you're going to have to change the bearings.

There's a couple of things in addition I would recommend if you're going to change the cam might as well do it too.

New lifters, timing chain, and oil pump. you are there already, why not address now vs having to later.

Wait to order push rods until you have new cam and heads installed. It's better to order the $20 push rod checker and measure for correct length then order wrong size and possibly do damage.
