160 Thermostats- SLP vs. autoparts store
What is the difference between the SLP or hypertech t-stat i can order online for about $60 and the $15 160 deg t stat i can go down and buy for my car at an autoparts store? If anyone knows it would be of great help.
Thanks

I've noticed slp is a bit overrated as well, it's like year one. you advertise enough, people don't research too deep when they start modding or restoring cause you got a 'one stop shop', and boom. you're in business and raking it in.

Black- 1999 SS Camaro #4,510
forget the thermo talk SLP isnt overated and or overpriced... SLP has alot to do with GM and id rather pay for parts that i fully no were tested and built specific form my car... I HAVE AN SS something SLP had a big deal to do with especially with trim level coming back in 96 so with my SS i go with nothing else then SLP theres no guessing. pay the extra and be safe lol thats just my opinion!

Just modify your stock thermostat yourself, it doesnt cost anything. That is a free mod in the book LS1-LS6 Performance by Christopher Andres. Just buy the book for $15.00 and your still way ahead and the book is a treasure trove of info. Just remember either way you go you still have to reprogram your fans

I saw your last line there "remember to reprogram your fans" and wouldn't
have known to do that, thank you very much!
My question is, how do I do that?
Thanks for your help!

I think SLP makes a kit that does it with hard wiring, or you have to have a programmer or bring it to someone who has one.

The LS1 thermostate's include the aluminum housing, that's why they are more expensive, if you are referring to the autoparts store's thermo's, the LT1however does not come with the housing.
