    160 thermostat LS1

Can anyone recommend a 160 degree thermostat for a 99 LS1. Is it a good idea to run this cool?

It won't run 160. Mine runs in the 175 to 180 range also with the 160 stat.

I have one a buddy gave me from his truck. He tried it and started getting codes, don't know which ones. He gave it to me saying I will need to get a tune when I install it.

    Is that true?

I know I would benefit with a tune, but is it necessary to get the tune after installing the thermostat?

I have not tuned and it is fine, if you idle for a while the temp climbs up just like the stock temp. until the fans come on. programming just has the fans come on before factory settings to keep it cooler. Normal use and driving is right around 177 for any brand 160.

You might want to try a bigger raditor like a 4 or 5 row hi eff. a 4 row helped mine run at 165 the only time it went above that is when i was pulling a big hill or the outside temp. was over 100 deg

He could, but I have the stock radiator and a 160 stat and I never go over 175 even on hot days. I live in florida too so it gets HOT out. 175 is very good compared to stock
