Hey @realDonaldTrump how about instead of destroying our economy through tariffs on steel and aluminum you place a tax on firearm sales that is used to harden schools, create new manufacturing jobs and save lives? #guntax

You will find you get a very similar vehicle in performance, warranty, and in alot of peoples opinion, looks for a cheaper price.

Better yet, take $35k and see what you can get from Chevy and compare that with what you can get with a BMW. You will be surprised.
3 series and C class are still not meant to compete with a Malibu. ATS and CTS yes

Hope all of you thinking this is no big deal to the auto industry lease your vehicles. This will run up prices for maintenance and repairs

No I don't lease....because I'm not stupid. So what if new cars cost more? Used car market will do better. GM already wants $70k for a new 2500. That truck might as well cost $80k because I'm not buying it either way.

^^^ This. It gets stupid expensive when you start buying the upgraded packages like LTZ and High Country. I was looking at a Sierra Denali 1500 a few weeks ago. It was loaded and VERY nice. Magnetic ride suspension, 6.2L, auto running boards, etc. etc. but the sticker was $66k. That is stupid for any truck other than a dually diesel.

Now for 2019, the Sierra will come with a carbon fiber bed. Losing weight without taking the beating Ford got for using aluminum but $$$$. A Sierra Denali 1500 in 2019 will be $70k I would bet.

Trump threatens tariffs, and then everyone calls him offering deals, essentially "free money" for the U.S.It's more than a little amusing that our media overlords STILL do not understand this, it's been two years, and my gosh, @ScottAdamsSays even wrote a book on it.

Personally, I am against tariffs because they impose a hardship on the buyer, not the seller; but if it is true, and the nations that we are imposing them on already have instituted its own tariff , for the same item, against us, then I am for it IF the money from the tariff is to go directly against the national debts principal.

I would be more interested in volume restrictions of the material in question, sourced from he other nation.

Still, the biggest cost factor is that is damaging America’s ability to compete is the over inflated cost of low skilled labor. When a firm is paying a $15.00 labor rate for a job that only provides $5.00 of value in the products value stream, how can one be efficient?

Yeah, but maybe those parts will last decades again. USA made steel is best for everyone all the way around IMHO. Japanese steel has been inferior for decades and now there is proof. That means that all the steel we get is inferior. Think about that for a minute... It's not just our cars, it's our military and infrastructure as well.

Maybe I'll get paid to resurface rotors again instead of just hanging new rotors. Won't change how long friction materials last though. I'm not holding my breath on that though

Think about our bridges, buildings, skyscrapers, military vehicles, ships etc... It goes far beyond rotors

I was talking specifically to the statement vehicle prices wouldn't rise too significantly. Thus bringing up maintenance and repair parts prices going up

Pretty soon, you won’t be able to resurface rotors at all. Manufacturers are making rotors thinner, and thinner, to reduce unsprung weight (and weight in general) to help meet CAFE requirements.

They can reduce weight and price by not using catalytic converters.

Ford has been doing that for years on the rotors. I was helping a friend by doing a front brake job on her truck. I pulled the OEM rotors off and took them back to the parts store because I thought they gave me the wrong ones. The replacements had almost an 1/8 more material over the the factory ones it came with. That's when I found out that's how Ford rolls.
