    Weight reduction wiring

Well as some of you know my car is slowly turning into a street "legal" drag car. I have removed a lot of weight from the car already. I don't have an accurate weight since 2 years ago and it was 3400 with me in it fairly stock.

The car is already light enough to begin with for the fact its a 1sc car.

So far I have removed the following:
    A/c and all ducting
    Heat
Front bumper support in place for a burkhart brace (will have new thread when it comes in next week)
    hvac controls
replaced steering wheel with a grant
    removed all the airbag stuff
    rear seats
    rear belts
    wipers, wiper motor, fluid container
removed stock rad overflow and replaced it with a 1 quart plastic one from summit.
    AIR system
and probably other things I can't think of right now.

So my next step is remove all the wiring I don't need. I have done a lot of reading and digging in the car and came up with the following wiring I can remove:

    A/C
    AIR wires
    airbag wiring
TSC wiring, power windows/doorlocks, Trunk pop, power windows(if my car has them)
    Wiring for the seatbelt light
wiring for the lights in the shifter, ashtray, and glove box
Stock radio, amp and subs (replacing with a amp, 4 speakers and a 3.5mm jack for my ipod)
    rear defroster (going lexan soon)

    I found this:
    http://www.ls2.com/boggs/torques/2002pcm.htm

It has the pinout for the main wiring. I would need to go one at a time and remove the wiring as needed.

Anyone know if I can remove the BCM???

Or is it worth it just buying a race harness???

    Thoughts???

Yeah, I've been lightening my car for a longtime as well

I kept the wipers for rainy days and the heater for Defrosting

You can shorten your exhaust to Dump after the mufflers

My car is sub 3000lbs I havn't weighed it in awhile

Buy a Shop manual on Cd over at the bay

It will help you with the wire schematic's

I have a single wiper for the rainy days. Don't care about the defrosting b/c of rainx defrost works for me.

Exhaust is tds dumped before axle now.

Got shop manual on the bay already and YES its great well worth the $7 shipped.

What have you done for the carpet? I am thinking of doing dynomat for the front feet area only and lay ozite on top.

Also did you cut out any brackets you aren't using?

    There is inspection in PA.

I am walking a fine line with this car. I have 1 wiper so that lets me pass.

For the exhaust I stay under 5k a year so I am emissions exempt. Everything else is ok.

    Sorry Just waking up

    I left that part out

Use what you can from this list

    Some I've done some I hav'nt

I have seen that list as well. I have done a lot of the things already listed on it. It has helped along the way

I am running out of the "free" things to do that is why I am moving on to the wiring. As soon as I find my camera ill take pictures of some of the things I want to delete.

This is where I stopped tonight.

I still need to pull the dash and find my damn socket to remove the seat belts.

I worked on the trans tunnel tonight. I removed the airbag harness but with that was the signal wire for the seat belt and a ground wire. I ended up cutting the seatbelt wire and soldered it in a loop. I also removed the lights.
I will have no wires going past the shifter.

I started working back from there just stripping the cable protectors and e tape.

Below are a few more pics of where I'm at.

    Thanks Jeff!

It will be different this year. A lot more removed from the car and I think it really cleans up in the engine bay.

My Burkhart bumper support was just billed on my cc should be shipping soon!

On a side note I have been looking at the under hood wiring for the fuse boxes. If I did my calcs right I only need one of those boxes if I move and remove the things I don't need. Once I get time to scan in my sketches I'll show you guys what I think.

That is already in the works. I am making a portable box with speakers and amps. It will have a 3.5 jack line in for my ipod. When I go racing just pull it out and go!

Does Burkhart make a bumper support for a Trans Am too? I wouldn't mind dumping all that crap out from under the front of our car.

So tonight I ripped out the dash, the dash support and pulled out some more wiring. I have yet to find my tool to remove the seat belts so I am a little stuck at this point. I am trying to remove the entire inside harness now to trim it down.

Also does anyone know what this is?
It is located under the carpet on the passenger side. It looks like something for anti theft?

Looks like you found the flux capacitor!

Holy moly -- how long before you peel the inner door skins off and slap on a sheet of .030 aluminum?

I have thought about that but I want to maintain some comfort on the street. I do have to remove the door panels to see if there is any wires in there. Only ones I need is for the door speakers b/c the car has no options from the factory.
