    Need a ruling

Hey guys, went to the Sacramento raceway last night for my first time running at a track. I had a lot of fun and plan on going on a more regular basis but my times were horrible.
    First run I wasn't ready:
    Reaction-.6
    I1-2.19
    I2-5.985
    I3-9.065
    MPH-82.454
    I4-11.72
    ET-13.976

    Second run:
    Reaction- -.030 red lighted
    I1-2.184
    I2-5.987
    I3-9.078
    MPH-81.258
    I4-11.735
    ET-13.992

I have a 98 z28 a4 with 180,000 on it. The trans is new with a shift kit and corvet sun shell and the motor was supposedly dealer replaced not long before I bought the car a couple months ago.
Do these times sound right? I'm stock other than a flowmaster catback down to a fram filter. The only thing I can see making the times worse are the subs in the back that weigh over 100 pounds with the box and amp. I know 100 pounds is supposed to be .1 off the ET but I figured with it behind the rear tires it would compensate better for traction. I barely spun off the line and didn't chirp second so traction wasn't an issue.
What gives? I was hoping for at least a 13.5 The previous owners times were 13.6 and 13.7 with crap tires minus the subs.

    My 02 ran a best 13.7x @ ~104 as a stone stocker (it had 2.73 gears).

I've gotten it a goodish bit quicker thru the years (see sig).

    2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.

Our A4 ran a best of 13.395 at 106 mph on street tires with a catback, lid and SFC's. What were the conditions at the track?

Good air is a God send when drag racing...

Also lid, catback and SFC's isn't stock so add a bit for a stocker. A lid alone gave me .15 seconds and ~1.5 mph.

I compared my 3500' DA against sea level and it made the car almost .3 seconds quicker and 2 mph faster.

I'd say you were doing some spinning whether you noticed it or not......your 60's tell the tale. Get those 60's down 2/10's and you're right on par with where the previous owner was for the most part. What were you trapping?

You're right, 2.18-2.19 60' is terrible. Stock I was in the 1.9x range (with beaucoup practice) on RSA's.

OP: Practice, practice, practice! The launch can make or break the time. You should be doing low 2.0's at minimum. It's called the "driver mod". You don't just "stab and steer"...

I have 3.23 rear end gears. and I forgot to mention I wasn't leaving off idle that was brake torqued on both launches.
The conditions on the track were good. It was probably around 80 my first run and the car was kind of hot around 210 when I ran since I just got there. the second run was after the car sat for a couple hours and it was probably in the high 70s. As far as humidity I have no idea.

I trapped 102.846 the first run and 102.860 the second run. I thought I posted that.

would pulling the subs and amp for next time benefit enough for weight reduction over traction?
Next time I'm hoping to have new plugs and thinking about either pulling the filter or getting a k&n. I feel kinda sketchy on not running a filter

Unless you or a previous owner installed them I doubt you have 3.08 gears. Stock for a Z28 with an auto tranny was 2.73 with 3.23 as the optional gear.

What is on you drivers door sticker? Should be either GU2 or GU5.

If still stock and unmolested a 2.73 car will have a steel DS while the 3.23 geared car will have an aluminum DS.

Brake standing too much will cause stock tires to spin mercilessly...

The subs are over the rearend. It's probably not a problem.

I meant 3.23s.. still thinking mustang gearing
It chirped a little off the line but not much. I had people watching check for me to and they said it didn't seem like it spun much at all.

Are both tires spinning? I've had more than 1 Auburn give up the ghost.

Yes. I did dry hops before my runs because I'm running street tires and had a friend check. I'm running bfgoodrich g force all seasons around 35 psi

Stock rims? I lost .2et going form 16's to 18's. You might have some time cut off if you let tire psi out. My 16's I took them down to 22psi and was cutting 2.0's. The flowmaster catback sucks and the weight wasn't helping you any.
How did you like Sac's return route? Pretty archaic huh?

    yes their stock rims.
I know the flowmaster sucks but its what my car came with.. along with every car I've owned haha. Thinking of a dumped bullet if I keep the car much longer.
The return wasn't too bad until it got dark haha. I have no comparison though.
I want to make a meet with a couple people from the form there. Do you run there often?

No, to much money spent trying to gain .1et. It sounds like a small group of them are going tomorrow but more than likely just not together. There is a august cruise coming up on the 29th if you are interested.
And not to many people from norcal post here, they post on the local site.
