My 1/4 mile pass (with video)

Very first time at the track , just bought this car about 1 1/2 months ago. I haven't had much practice launching.. And my best was 13.766 @ 103.41 mph

    Pass #1
    R/T .428
    60' 2.199
    330 5.968
    1/8 9.011
    MPH 80.57
    1000 11.60
    1/4 13.766
    MPH 103.41

http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n...tPassinWS6.flv <--- Video (not the greatest)

    Pass #2 was almost identical
    slightly slower @ 13.771 @ 103.37

Pass # 3 and 4 --- Not worth mentioning, lol.. High 14's - because I spun all the way thru first then bogged in second due to shifting too early--- funny thing is my MPH was 102.xxx on both runs, but I ran 14.8s. lol.

I am not proud of 13.766 but I will take it. My goal is to get 13.3 or better.

I am 100% stock except SLP lid.

Funny thing is my SES light was on (Autozone says O2 sensor on passenger side.) But after the first pass It went off. LOL

Can some one look at my times and tell me where I can improve (obviously 60') anything else?

I think I am kinda granny shifting 2 to 3 -- make sure I don't miss or worse, jam it in first.

that conversion of the 1/8th mile to quarter mile is bogus. I ran a 9.011 @ 80.57 mph and my quarter mile was 13.766 (not 14+ like that chart shows)

You are the second or third person that swears by this pro 5.0 shifter. what makes it so good? I am sure it is shorter throws, but everyone swears you will never miss third again, How is that?

Powershift-- does this mean never left of the gas while shifting?

Drag radials shouldn't be need for 13.3 should it? I think a better driver could have my car 13.3 easily? Of course I would love to see sub 13s - but I realize that I would need a perfect launch/ perfect shifts, and perfect track conditions. etc. and I am far from perfect at the track.

last questions -- With Drag radials, can you drop the clutch at 2500 RPMs and gun it or will it spin all thru first that way.

ok, im bored so heres some answers.

    1. powershifting is indeed not letting off of the gas fully between shifts. you arent going to want to keep it floored between shifts (at least i dont) but you are trying to keep the engine in its power band by shifting quickly and not fully letting of the gas.
    2. dr's are essential for good 60's and yes you can hook up at 2500 rpm. most people actually launch around 4000-4500, but start at 2500 and work your way up.

    3. work on your launching technique, i found the best way to launch was to side step the clutch (which is literally stepping your foot off the side of the clutch and dumping it all at once.

    4. these practices will shorten the life of your tranny and rear end. good luck and let us know about your improvement

thanks for the help-- about the Drag Radials. do you mean I can literally dump the clutch at 2500 and they will bite with minimal spin? Or do i still need to roll onto the gas/ while slipping the clutch at the same time.

I plan to get much better. but I am just wondering if Drag Radials are really that great?

Can someone show me a pic of a DR? - I asked about Drag radials at the local tire shop, he said they are only good for about 20 / 30 seconds? I don't know what he meant, but he made it sound like after about 20-30 passes they are needing to be replaced?

also can Drag Radials be driven on on the street?

(same two passes, but I filled in the hard to read numbers on the fastest pass , just incase it wasn't readable.)

Yeah that conversion table is completely bogus.

Some cars are stronger low end (with All wheel drive etc.) and there 1/8 mile time will be quicker, but they will fall off a bit by then end of the 1/4 mile.

Some cars really come alive in 3rd gear (LS1) and a 9.01 1/8th can still manage 13.7 1/4 mile. As I proved.

I am going to keep working on launching my car, I firmly believe that with better launches and better shifting, I can get 13.3 easily.

No LS1 is a 14 second car.. If my unexperienced ass can get a 13 second pass in on my very first try in a M6, then anyone can get 13's ( unless you are in very high altitude--- example:-- bandimere Speedway , Near Denver CO. 5000+ feet up..

the nittos last onger and are better for everyday driving compared to the m/t's imho. M/t are better for traction though.

you can dump it a lot higher than 2500.

You will see a lot of improvement if you shift at 5800-6000!
The motor will be fine as long as you are not banging it off of the rev-limiter, and even then it's within the thershold of what the ls1 and your valve train can tolerate. I just wouldnt make a habit of it.

Drag radials are made of the soft compound like a slick so they hook like a merf. Drag radials with the correct suspension setup can hook as good as a comparable size slick yet retain some sidewall rigidity and had treads for "street" duty and stability on the big end. Given the soft compound DR's would wear real quick in comparison if driven regularly.

Do not powershift the car it will break, you should get 1.9 60' at prp on street tires and run 13 to 13.3 with out much problems and some practice. MPH seems low for prp, you should be seeing 105 to 107 their with a stock f-body. You should bring it to the flashlight drags in Waynesburgh this Sunday

you shouldnt need dr's to hit around 13.30 on a good quality street tire. but drag radials are a must if you want to drop your time more, yes you can dump it at 2500 on dr's and not spin a bit, at most you might have to barely warm them up, not much though if any at all. i also highly recommend the pro 5.0 shifter. as far as dr's go everyone i ever talk to highly suggest nitto's dr, they are supposed to be good for up to 15,000 miles as long as you keep the right air pressure in them when your not racing.
