M6-- shift to 4th or not?
I have only been to the track once. My first two passes I didn't shift to fourth.
I got 13.766 and 13.771
My other two runs I did shift to fourth, but my launch was soo horrible that I can't even compare the runs to determine which is best.
So my question is..... With stock gears in an 02 WS6 M6-- which is better staying in 3rd or shifting to 4th gear.
(sorry if it is a repost)
PS my only modification is SLP air lid

Pass #1
R/T .428
60' 2.199
330 5.968
1/8 9.011
MPH 80.57
1000 11.60
1/4 13.766
MPH 103.41

But the Reaction time is irrelevant to which gear you end in, And it is also irrelevant in the 1/4 mile time. Or where you just asking for the sake of knowing.

i'd shift into forth around 90.
Are you just running street tires?
You could lower your 60'.
You are sitting pretty high in the 8th.

Yeah my times sucked -- It was my first time ever, and I only owned the car for just over a month at that point. -- not to be making too many excuses
To answer your question- Yes, street tires.
4th @ 90 MPH wow, really? who else feels that way? I would love more input on this.

the whole deal with 90 is after i got my headers and 3 inch-y and borla catback and the intake side with a lid. It always fared better that way even though it does seem weird.

If you have the stock 3.42 gears keep it in 3rd & let it bounce on the rev limiter. Shifting to 4th will actually hurt the ET. Better yet get someone who has HPT or LS1Edit raise the rev limiter for 3rd to 6400 or so.

If I have to....I do.
3rd gear is 105MPH tops. Some cars might need to shift, some might not.

I would have to take a look at a dyno sheet to tell you that.
But since mostly stock LS1's peak around 5200 for HP and 4200 for torque...I would say yes.

yeah i was just asking for the sake of knowing. i shift into fourth to keep from hitting the rev limiter. If I had one of my slips I could tell you exactly but if I remember correctly I was running 13.1-13.4 and around 105-107?. what rpms are you shifting at in the other gears? Y is it that every ls1 is different when it comes down to peformance on the track?

yeah my r/t is the worst of all time! I'm not sure of any other pointers. Every car runs differently, could depend on the driver, weather, etc.

cool man -- I may take you up on that.. I thought those hand held tuner/ lap top tuners were only allowed to tune one car, and if you try to tune another you have to set the original back to factory settings, I guess I was wrong..
Washington PA -- cool
You know any other Fbodies in this area, maybe I can squeeze into a car club, if there's room
Peace.

Leave the stock rev limiter in place if you don't have any valvetrain work done.
