analyzing track times
Just curious of if my car is running what it should. The old owner ran it 10/09 and the times were 13.68 at 104.37 60 ft was 2.12 and second run 13.77 at 103.51 with a 2.14 60 ft.
Does this sound right for a stock 98 z28 with 175k on it? My only mod is a flowmaster catback and its an auto

Catback, SFC's, lid and 180 degree stat, our A4 T/A ran 13.395 at 105-106 mph back in November on street tires. Probably a lot of variables that could account for the difference, including 100,000 fewer miles. The 60 foot was 2.1 - 2.2 for comparison.

ok still doing good for almost 200k then haha.
I'm trying to decide on weather to start mods on this or start over on something with lower milesLast edited by pk222; 03-08-2010 at 01:01 PM.

Just know that the flowmaster is a crappy catback but that sounds pretty reasonable for an auto with that many miles.

My 98 w/ 95,000 on it ,a cat back ,273's and a lid went 13.4 @105 .2.04 - 60 ft .So your time is @ were they run . Sounds like its doing ok for 175K

mine stock with 3.23's was going 13.4's. So depending on gears and mileage you are in the ballpark, a 2.0 60' will bring that e.t down. You went to sac or infineon today?

Sounds like the correct times for me with the only mod a Flowmaster. Take it off and you might hit a 13.5.

It was at sac and I wasn't driving it was timeslips from the previous owner. I know it has a ton of miles but none of the characteristics of it.. Runs great rides smooth steering and braking are tight. but just the fact it has so many miles scares me. I was thinking of doing a top end overhaul and go with some ls6 heads a cam new lifters springs timing chain and oil pump but thought since there are so many miles it could be better to sell this and get something with less miles. I have 3.23 gears also.
Whats your guys input? Keep it and mod it or startover with a lower milage car?

You could certainly freshen things up a bit. But as long as you are not blowing smoke or burning oil things must be fairly good to turn those times. A simple compression test and a UOA would tell you what is going on inside your engine.

I would vote to refresh the motor instead of swapping out a used one with less miles. Also consider with anything bigger than a cheater cam you will need a stall.

What is a uoa? It doesn't burn any oil and I noticed a little smoke today but think it could just have been condensation. Theres some black soot on the exhaust but I don't think any more than what is regular.
What would be a good cheater cam? I am planning eventually running a yank 3600 ss or a vigalante 3400. I would not be able to fund both cam and a stall at the same time.

The reason I was thinking of doing a cam soon was because I thought I had a lifter going bad or a bent pushrod but I think its the water pump making the noise now.
I'm thinking if thats not the problem then doing a stall with a trans go shift kit and frost mailorder tune after some pacesetter lts and ory.

In my area I only have to smog upon transfer of titles so as long as I keep the car I have no worries.
I know that but I don't do any highway driving. I live in the country so most of its big hills. I'm mostly worried about rolling back at stop signs because everything is so steep around here.

I know what you mean and I know the area vaguely. You honestly going to 1/4 mile it enough to justify a stall or are you going to tear up those mountains? You may just look into a cheater cam with heads that won't buck through that stock stall. Not to say a stall wouldn't be worth doing but for where you live I understand it isn't the best mod for around there.

Used Oil Analysis. You send in a sample from your next oil change to a company and they analyze it for all sorts of stuff. By its content, generally in parts per million (ppm), it give you an idea of what is going on in your engine. Sarge has some info posted in one of his threads along with UOA's that have been submitted by site members and the interpretation thereof.

I will probably go the the track no more than 2 times a year so It might not be worth it. I do eventually want to run a stall but I don't even know how it would be. I've never driven or ridden in anything with a stall.
Ok that looks good I'll have that done next oil change.
