    aluminum driveshaft

i know this should probably be in the drivetrain section, but the reason i am posting it here is because i want to know what kind of 60' foot times the aluminum dr can handle with 3.73 and a fuddle 2800 stall. my 60' is a 1.74 dead hook with the nitto 245/50-16. car weight is 3420 with me.

what is you 60' with an aluminum drive shaft and how is it holding it?

i'm not going to go any bigger on the stall or gears, maybe a set of afr heads in ther future.

My aluminum one took a few 1.67 shorts bogging...been told I lifted the front tire a time or two, just no proof.
Since upgraded to prevent it from twisting. Car is an M6.

    Sadly now demodded :(

A4 cars with 3.23 gears got an Aluminum driveshaft; 2.73 gears got a steel driveshaft.

I'm not saying you can't cut good times with the stocker, I'm just saying its usually a ticking time bomb if you drag race it a lot.

i've been 1.704 with mine. never had an issue with the DS. run a 3400 stall and 3.73 gears with a boatload of nitrous. i've seen plenty of 1.5x 60ft as well from other people.

I twisted my aluminum driveshaft once, due a bigger rearend install (Dana60) and fogot I need to shorten the driveshaft about 1 inch... it was way too tight in there, but now after I resized it works like a charm... I haven't beaten on my TA too much at the track, kind of timid launching... learning to get to the 1.6 slowly but surely.

    driveshaft:

carbon fiber > steel > aluminum

the cost/price follows the same exact logic...

I'm telling you....warm those tires up for 5 seconds, go up to the line, stall up to 3200, and let her rip.
You car is built for it.

    Go do it.

It is so much fun to get tossed back for a 1.6 short time.

wow our 60' times a pretty close. only dif. is i have a 2800 fuddle and you have a 3400.

as long as you never had a problem i'm going to give it a shot, anyways i know this kid who is in the next town who just totaled his 97 m6 z28(RIP), i believe it has an aluminum ds and i may be able to get it for around $40, so even if i do break it i'll still have my steal one ready.

I'm just trying to hit the 11.9's on doing small cheap mods,

So far SINCE my 12.27, i have removed 50lbs from the car, relocated the battery to the trunk(great mod IMO) and fixed the 2-3 shift point from 6500 back to 6100, <--this last mod, or tune i should say, will really help as the car pulls harder in the beginning of third as it did reving past 6100rpm and loosing power.......and to add to these i will try to buy by buddies cheap ds for some less rotating weight

If someone busts up an aluminum DS....
I might have one I can sell to someone. Out of a 1999 M6 T/A.
Has a 1350 yolk on it though. Won't fit a stock rearend without swapping the rearend yolk back to stock.
