Widest tire on 9 inch (stock) rim???

    Hey guys,

I was wondering what the widest tire you guys run on a stock WS6 rim is. I was looking at 285, but I dont want excessive overhang. I know 275 is recommended for a 9 inch rim, but I would be satisfied with 285. Anybody have pics with stock rims and 285 tires?

    Your help is appreciated.

Here is what a 275 looks like on mine. Just the back. The front is 255. They're not stock rims, but they are the same width.

I would not go any wider.

This pic kind of shows how much "overhang" is on the back a little better than the first pic.

Thank you for the pics, thats really what I wanted to see.
Do you have just a shot of the rear of your car so I can get a visual of how wide those tires look from the rear?

    Thanks again

Just took this with my iPhone, so not the best quality.

Tried to get as straight as possible from the back wheel to the front so you can see how far it sticks out. I'm not sure if my offset is the same as stockers though.

I went with 285's on my wifes SS with stock wheels. I wanted a sidewall overhang for some added curb rash insurance. (works like a charm) As expensive as wheels are anymore it just makes sense to me.
I personally think it looks better anyway, I never liked the short sidewall look that was barely parrallel with the side of the wheel.

I have 285's on my 9" with no problems. I wouldn't go any wider, but you will be perfectly safe with 285's.....

Crazy as it sounds, I have a friend who has 315's mounted on the stock 10 spoke SS wheel which is 9" wide. In my opinion, the tire does not look distorted or overstretched. He has been running this setup for two years now and is still alive.

Wow, I've never seen the 315's done like that. I'd love to see how that looks.

The only problem I ran into was that not many tire manufactures make the 285's like they used to. Only 2-3 to choose from if I remember.

I ended up going with Firestone Firehawk tires, one of the few still making the 285's.

Not sure who that is directed to, but the 285's I run are a 285/40-17 for my wifes SS camaro with the stock SS 17x9 wheels.

On a 17" wheel, it is ideal to use the 40 series sidewall for 275-285. Getting into the 295-315 range I would go with the 35 series.
