    what tires to get?

Well I dragged my 00 WS6 out of storage and it's time for some new shoes. Not in a rush cause I'm not driving it that much but I will be buying in a few weeks. The car sees some rain and I'm looking for a street/strip tire that will get me the best bang for the buck. Unrelated, on my 98 I ran summitomos and I wasn't disappointed but then again I was on one tight tight budget. Can anyone confidently recommend a tire to fit my stock WS6 rims?

Street and strip narrows its down quite a bit...Nitto 555 are very very popular for our cars. Might want to look into a drag radial for the rear if you are going to be running the 1/4 tho.

I 2nd Nitto 555's. I see a lot of rain here, not intentionally, but it happens. Otherwise I'd never get to drive it. They handle very well on wet roads and even better on dry.

Track use = meh... When she's back up MT's are going to be ordered as well as a 2nd pair of wheels for track duty.

I was thinking Mickey Thompson ER street radial 2 but how do you think that'll perform street wise in weather and what not?

Nice...I was on Nitto website and they have a package for 2 555 and 2 555r which is their drag radial. Might look into that.

If you're just out for the fun and not trying to set best et times Nitto 555's. But you might want to think about a couple of things. For best handling and good rain traction I like BFGoodrich G-Force Comp 2's. If you have good track prep and the right tire pressure you can get almost as good as Nitto 555's. With that said I would look at a set of wheels for normal driving and a set for the strip. I bought a set of salad shooters for the Z so I could run M/T ET Streets. The 60' and 1/4 times showed the difference between Nitto's and Streets. But if you do want to swap out between normal driving and track Nitto's.

Well that and what Jeff said.

just 1 man's story so keep that in mind......about 10 years ago I was driving to work in the bird and a pop up shower caught me half way there. I was doing about 55 just cruising on a 4 lane. Out of nowhere the back end jumps out on me. Scared the dog shit out of me. I was running 555r's and they had about 7k on them at the time which I would consider about half used up. I still run 555r's but make sure I don't get caught in the rain anymore.

    what tires to get?

Yeah I thought about 2 sets of rear tires but I'm mainly at the track having fun nothing too competitive. the 555r looks like it's rated well for rain but realistically my highway driving is 5 miles at max.

The best track and street tires I had were the BFG's. They wore very well. Had them for about 10 years or so. I don't drive it that much, but overall they did well. I now have a 2nd set of stock 16" TA wheels. So now, I will be getting the Mickey Thompson drag radials on 1 set, and the street tires on another set.

I've run drag radials for about 15+ years. Started with the BFG's as they were the first to hit the market. Switched to MT drag radials when they came out later and never looked back.
When I lived in Ohio I did get caught a couple times in the rain. Not the best rear tires to have for that. I cautiously slowed my cruise speed down to about 45 mph and drove 40 miles home without issues. It's not a tire I want to find out how well it does in the rain.

I still run these tires, but in Arizona we don't get much rain to speak of so that's a non issue 99% of the time.

It's not a tire I'd want on a daily driver or something that might venture more than a couple hundred miles from home. For a weekend fun car that stays around town they work fantastic. On dry pavement the car is much more safe and predictable to drive.

I have NT555 tires on the back of my car. Previous owner put them on brand new 2 years ago. I have put 2,000 miles on then, some with some 1st gear throttle play, and some 1/4 mile passes. They do pretty good. Minimal spin at launch. My front tires are old so the NT555 tires are going up front, and I'm going to put the NT05 tires on the rear.

Something else to consider, whatever tires you decide to buy, find a shop that has a Hunter Road Force balancing machine. It will cost you a little more but you will get an excellent balance that will make any tire feel better right from the start.

What tire do you guys recommend for fronts for me? I drive the car in only nice weather and am looking for something Z rated, with overall great performance for handling. Car has roughly 500rwhp. I only put about 2K miles on the car a year so wear is not a major concern. As info, I will be running Mickey Thompson ET Streets for the rears.

Running a stock rim size on the SS - 17".

Also - I am looking to buy them on Amazon as I have enough points to get them free so I am somewhat restricted for choices. I see: Yokohama, BF Goodrich, Michelin, Pirelli, Nitto, Kumho, Dunlop, Goodyear and a few other brands to choose from.
