Toyo R888 or Nitto 555R
I am looking for a good drag radial. I was thinking of the Nitto 555R but then my friends said to ask about the Toyo drag radial. Does anyone know about the toyos? I want something that is going to hook good but last as a street tire. My friend is getting a set for his mustang and he needs some to be able to drive in the rain. Can someone tell us what is a good drag radial and how long they last? Which is best for wet weather or cornering?

the toyo r888 is not a drag radial it is an autocross tire. Dot legal road racing tire so the sidwalls are super stiff for cornering. Nitto makes a autocross tire or a drag radial.

I wouldn't use a Drag Radial in the rain..... just for MY sense of security.... but I haven't heard about the Toyos....

what will the vehicle be used for mainly? If spirited street driving is the main use and you want more traction than the Toyo T1-rs which I have and they are a great tire even with 650 rwhp then upgrade to the R888 which will have a lot less treadwear, but more grip.

mine will just be a street tire. my friends car will be street and then his track tire. how many miles do they last and how hard can you launch on them.

Wish I could answer those questions, this tire is just coming out and it will be some time before we see some feedback. I ordered a set of M/T DR`s about 4 weeks ago and still not here; It would be nice if someone could make a tire and keep up with orders.

I've had plenty of experience with the Nitto 555R's. In my opinion, they're a great middle-of-the-road drag radial -- they offer improved traction over a typical street radial however they aren't so radical that you couldn't make it home safely in the rain. It's tough to get anything to hook well in cold weather and the Nittos are no exception. That being said, if you heat them up on dry pavement, they typically do pretty well for a street tire.
I try not to drive my car in the rain, however I ran into a pretty bad storm on a ride from North Carolina to Georgia and the car performed just fine. That being said, I wouldn't want to push the car to the limits under wet conditions with that tire (or any tire for that matter).
On average, I get around 8K - 10K out of a set of the 555R's. The Toyos look to be a nice street drag radial as well -- should offer performance similar to the Nittos. If you're looking for even better traction, try the MT or BFG drag radials -- however, the compromise with these tires is they wear quickly and certainly wouldn't work very well in the rain.
