Tire brands
Ok, so i bought myself a set of rims for christmas, i posted about it a few weeks ago, titled c6 rims. anyway, i got them. and my dad offered to buy tires for christmas. I was going to go with a set of 255 or 265/50/17. he got a set of 235/50/17, he mentioned something about not being able to find that size, even though i know discount tire has kumho's in that size. anyway, the brand he got is Hankook. Up until this last summer, my grandad ran a tire shop, and ive never heard of them, but i saw them listed in a magazine today, priced about the same as Kumho's, and theyre Z-rated, i was wondering if anyone knew anything about them.

After i posted this, i search for some online reviews, they had a set on 1010tires.com. i dont know the exact model tire, theyre not at my house, but a lot of the reviews were written by people with STi;s, Civic SI's, Mustangs, and F-body's. all gave 4/5 and 4.5/5 star reviews, but id rather have some personal input

tell him other sizes aren't safe due to not properly mounted, and causing your abs to act in weird behaviours due to different diameter.
safety first

thats kind of what i did with my mom, but that wouldnt work with my dad, for one, hes a mechanic, and secondly, 235/50/17 has a diameter difference of 1 tenth of an inch from the factory settings. factory is 26.25", these are 26.15", or that could be backwards, but you get the point. i wanted wider tires but eh, its not that big of a deal, im just ready for my C6 rims to come in.

I've got Hankook Ventus ST's on my Impala and they hold up really well. I live on a dirt road and they rarely pick up or throw any debris into the fender well like other tires I've had before. It's a good brand.

A 235 on a 9.5in rim is going to look weird IMO.

I've got the Ventus Sport K104's by Hancook (275/40R17). I've been pretty happy with them. They are a reasonably good tire for the price. Not so good on the track but they corner well and hold well in the rain too.

Red Fire- 2007 Mustang GT/CS
I manage a Tire/Mechanic shop here in Portland OR. I see and sell almost every tire known to man..
Hankook's are a tier 3 tire (Tier 1 best etc tiers going 1-4) They are an upper Tier 3 tire and are priced accordingly. That's not saying they are BAD. Just not super tires. They perform very well for their intended price bracket and most definately fill a niche.
As stated above the SS comes with 274-4-17's and are mounted on a narrower rim than you are running.
I think you may find the size you have may look a bit odd on your rims, but the tires themselves are adequate. Similar to Nexen, Sumitomo and Kumho.
Do yourself a favor and learn the breaking point of your new tires in adverse conditions... wet, cold tar etc. before pushing them really hard..
Depending on what you currently have mounted, the difference could suprise you. And I would hate to hear of you wrecking because your new tires don't hold lateral G's as well as your old tires did/do. Just my .02
