Paint the rims or leave them?

Since I got my WS6 a couple months ago I've really been itching to paint them black with a polished lip. The problem is since they're original chrome WS6 rims I'm very hesitant because I've heard it would lower the value of the rims. The chrome is starting to peel in a few places, so I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead an paint them. What do you guys think? Also any tips on the painting process? Here's how I plan on doing it, I'm not sure if I should do anything different in the prepping process though since they're chrome, this is also my first time painting.

    1. Clean
    2. sand
    3. clean again with acetone, followed by cleaning again with soap and water.
    4. couple light coats of primer, 30min in between coats
    5. 3 light coats of Black dupli color wheel paint, 30min dry in between
    6. 1 coat of clear coat.
    24hr dry.

Would this process be ok? Or is there something I'm missing?

many people have suggested that, by I have no idea how much it costs. Any ideas?

I've also heard that most shops that do it like to keep the wheels for atleast a few days. This is my DD, So I'm not sure if that's an option

powder coat is cheaper than painting them.. will last longer and paint dont come off..
i have seem some powdercoated rims and they dont shine that much as regular paint.. i guess depending on whos doing it.

In some places it's the chrome and in others the clearcoat. It's minor though.

I've heard/seen that. I may be mistaken but doesn't that only give a matte look? Could I clear coat it to add alittle shine?

    Thanks,

I don't drive much at all(maybe 15miles a day) and it's garage kept, so they should last a few months as long as long I don't kiss a curb somewhere. I don't plan on keeping this on there for more than a couple months though, this is just to see if I like the look. If I like it I'll save up to get them powdercoated professionally. Everyone around here wants like $400 to powdercoat.

If you want it to last longer than that/permanent sand the rims before you spray it on. Only downside to this stuff is it's very hard to leave part of the rim unsprayed(the lip for example) because if you do it'll start peeling within a few weeks, if not immedietely. So you kinda have to do the whole rim.

the plastidip is only meant to last 2 or 3 months...
