Not all 3rd gen wheels are the same size?!?!?!
AHHHH.. I think I just screwed up! I know this isn't an LS1 question.. but the car will have an LT1 soon.. Anyway...
Pushed the 87 back on the driveway (that was a chore.. lol) got it all up on stands.. put the camaro next to it.. jacked it up.. got the wheels off the 87.. took the first wheel off the 85.. but it on the 87.. no big deal....
Put the 87 wheel on the 85.. got halfway on.. and CLUNK.. clunk clunk clunk.. WTH? CLUNKCLUNKCLUNK Why won't this go on... look behind it.. its hitting the SHOCK!?!?!?!?
Take them off.. put them side by side.. and the 87's are about an inch deeper than the 85s!! SHIT! Is there a way to change this so the 87s fit on the 85????
I'm gona be PISSED if I just spent $300 on tires for the 87 rims for NOTHING!!!-Geno

my guess is the 87 wheels are the 16". the third gen 16" wheels have two different offsets front to rear. they are marked on the wheels FRONT and REAR. the rears have more inward offset than the fronts. make sure you are putting the FRONT wheels on the front and the BACK wheels on the back. when you put the BACK wheels on the front, they hit the tie rod ends and shocks. all 82-92 wheels are interchange able.

Shit.. I didn't think of that.. so I might not be able to rotate these? The 3 other 3rd gens I have aren't like that... hmmm I'll have to go out and check!
But yes, these are 16".. as oppsed to the 15" that are on the 85 now...

only the 16" wheels have the different offsets. if the tires are not directional, you can rotate left/right.

You are absolutely right! Flipped them all over, and measured the depth.. and one is about 6" deep.. then other less than 5".. got the fronts on! Thanks for the heads up! And the tires ARE directional.. so loooks like once a tire wears out.. have to replace it.
On a side note.. my Formula has 16".. and I don't rmember having a prob rotating them....
