Need some tire help, C5 Z06
Currently I am running a 305/35 18 Nitto 555R. That tire was great until my car got more violent courtesy of e85 and more boost. I am losing traction when I get into higher boost in 1st through 4th gears.
I need a wider, and stickier tire. And am not against a new set of wheels either. I don't drag this car, but I do rally it, and need high speed performance and a tire that won't slip once I get up into boost.
It appears a 315/35 18 is about as wide as my OEM wheel will handle, as well as my fenders. But only Toyo makes a DR this size, and I have no experience with them. In a perfect world, I'd like to run a 335 or 345 on a 12" wheel, but that probably won't work without a mini tub, which is just adding to the car debt.
Also, a 315/30 18 is almost an inch shorter than my current tires, so I won't want to run the risk of having un-proportioned front and rear tires, causing ABS / Active handling issues.
Mods and power are in sig. And believe me when I say... this car is violent.
Thank you in advance.

You could do NT05R tires with 285/40/18 in the front and 315/40/18 in the rear. You may need to roll your fenders though, you won't have any ABS issues with those sizes.

Are you looking for a DR or a road racing tire? I am confused because you say you don't drag race it but then you mention DRs.
Not sure if this helps but I am planning on getting Toyo R888s since they are a pretty sticky tire, not bad on the street, good for top speed and road racing or at least from what I have read on them they are. While I am not boosted I will have 421 CID on e85 as well because of my sky high compression of 14.8:1 and I was suggested the Toyos due to the fact they should keep me planted on the street or track at my power level for sure. Apparently Toyo is actually the parent company of Nitto so I wouldn't be afraid to run their stuff at all.Last edited by 98TransAmWs-6; 04-19-2014 at 08:12 PM.

The DR's were the only tire that could give me the traction I needed, that's why I have them. I fear I'm stuck with them, perhaps ET streets next.

Well I think I am going to mini tub the car... I found some kits for around $700. Then will come the wider wheels. Still searching for those.

You could give the NT05R a try first or even the NT01.
Well maybe not the NT01 on second thought, same tread rating (100) as the 555R. 05R is (00)Last edited by allbaugh_04; 04-25-2014 at 07:15 AM.
