need new tires and your input

yep, time to get me some new tires, i noticed a tear in the tread this morning so before i get a blowout i am just gonna buy a new set. i've had these for about two and a half years and they don't make them anymore says discount tire where i bought them.
I stopped at NTB and they quoted me $691 for either yokahoma or goodyear g force 255/50R16. $132/tire i currently have 245's and they look too small. The guy says with the g force's they would be taller, but since they are softer the yoka's would last longer but the tread pattern is butt ugly.
I am gonna try sears and discount tire today, any ideas on where and what to buy?
ps, i am not really an aggressive driver which is my kumo's lasted so long.
    thanks

I'm running GoodYear F1 GS-D3's and like them. I got a good deal at the Tirerack.

I have a set of Hankook Ventus V4ES on my car (245/50R16) and they have been the best set of tires I have used so far. Good Handling, great longevity, have made several passes at the track on them, and they work great for the money. I got mine from the dealership i work at they were running a special on them and got mine for $385 mounted and balanced, regular retail would have only cost about 50 bucks more.

wow good deal only 385!! I went ahead and bought some sumitumo htr 245/50R16Z with a lifetime balance, rotation, manufacture/store warranty and alignment for 600 from sears. i've had these tires before didn't mind them they were good they are soft so i know i'll need some more in about 1yr and a half.
But while i was there they said that they couldn't align my car because the passenger tie rod was loose and needs replacing. so i guess i know what i will be doing soon.

I had a tie rod break on a cutlass I had. It was a bitch keeping it on the road and not hitting on coming traffic. Good thing I was only doing 45. Get that thing replaced like now!
