Drag Radials w/ stock rear end

Ok, here's the deal... I have an 01 ss camaro w/ 275 40 zr17 bf's all around. My front tires are shot and I'm in the market for new ones. I'm thinkin of throwin my back tires to the front and getting some drag radials for the back. My question is I have a stock rear end and as far as I've been told if I hook really hard it will break. I never go to the track but I do like to have some fun on the streets. Is it smart to go with drag radials for the summer or should I look else where?

start saving for a 9" or a 12 bolt if your going with DR's unless you granny it.

I have seen 3 cars at the track running drag radials or et streets blow out their rear end on relatively stock cars. If you have a 6 speed, Your chances go up exponentially.

im putting down 443/402, sporting 315/35/17 Nitto DR's on the rear of my stock 10-bolt (M6), no problems. it has encountered plenty of hard shifts on the street and strip. i just feather the clutch off the line at the track...

for the street, you're fine, just dont do 4k dumps...

i ran drag radials on my 99 z and still have not had any rearend problems. the stock driveshaft however will probably go first but that probably wont happen on the street. my driveshaft snapped in half trying to leave at 4000 rpm at the track, i put in an aftermarket shaft no more problems. the only drawback with running DR's on the street is they throw up a lot of rocks so i run regular tires on the street and when i go to the strip i throw on the slicks that i have on some other wheels.

I have 420 rwhp on the stock rear end with DR's - Just dont dump the clutch @ 4k and you should be good - On the other hand one of my boys blew out his from a 1st gear pull @ 10 mph with just LT's

I ran my ET Street Radials at the track on my 10 bolt...left the line on a 150 shot of spray. it wont hurt the rear if youare spinning, but i your car hooks well, you will have 10bolt pieces,

i just installed a moser 9" the other night, to the tune of about $1800

ok my car dynoed 341/351 hp/tq at the wheels im running 255 50 16's at the strip i have lca and relocaters . i left the line at 2600 rpm and dead hook 12.9 1/4 time ...... the next run i left at 2600 and sat at the line with a broken axle ..... note that im still runing street tires i want to put a set of DR's on the car but do not want to break my lsd i have moser axles in it noe so i dont have to think a bout breaking them

I have Many cars running around on 150 shot,6 speeds,and drag radials on stock 10 bolts.
Even if you go to the track you allow for some tire spin by tuning air pressure. You can have a car with 850hp and a 10 bolt. As long as it's spinning the tires the rearend will NEVER know the motor has 850hp.

Also you'll need alot more than drag radials to hook like that on the street.
I would highly recommend putting a set of junkyard V-6 rear springs in your car and that will help aid drastically with spinning specially on the street.

i ran them till i lowered my car...now it hooks with a 2.5" drop...although it took a TON more work

Yes usually about 1/2" or so.

You can cut them to lower more if wanted.

The whole benefit is due to the lighter spring rate so they will compress easier and allow for better weight transfer.

If you push on the rear corner of any WS6,SS,or Z28 it is stiff as a rock for cornering. It isn't designed for drag racing or weight transfer what so ever.

You can also cut the bottom of the end link bolts off for the swaybar. Just leave 3/8" of threads past the nut. When you get to the track or the night your going to the street races un-bolt the end links and it will allow for a few inches more of front end travel which will also aid in weight transfer.
