I have 285's on a 9.5, but wouldn't go past 295's.

275/40-17 should do it well
315/35-17 are meant to be mounted on 17x11 - 17x13 wheels
Unless you don't give a rats ass about properly mounted tires and decent contact patch.
If you want wider tires, get wider wheels.Eugenio_SS
almost stock triple-black 2000 SS convertible with 17x11s on all 4 w/ 315s at the track or on the street with 18x10.5s on all 4 w/ 315s: (1), (2)

we just put some 315's on maxwhacks' Z today on a 9.5" SS wheel. they contact just fine.
they fit, but you gotta do some 'adjusting' of the inner fender, and prolly roll the lip depending on backspacing.
ive got some 275's on 11" wheels too, guess thats wrong as well

yeah, you are wrong. if you match up the wrong tires with the wrong rims it stretches the sidewalls incorrectly, and actually affects your contact on the road. then when you turn your sidewalls dont properly flex, and this will cause poor tire wear, and not to mention the risk of popping the bead.
i agree, if you want wider tires, get wider rims.

Yep, the rims aren't wide enough to fit properly.
Go to a tire manufacturer page, like Hoosier. They can show you the recommended rim for each tire size.

you are wrong indeed.
275s on 17x11 is ok, since most 275/40-17 are to be mounted on 17x9 to 17x11, ideally mounted on 17x9.5
It's not because something can be done that it's safe and good to do.
a 315 on a narrow wheel will be buldging, contact patch is not good, can't handle cornering loads properly, you'd be better off with better results on a 275 tire.
Why don't you start towing cars by attaching them @ your rear bumper ?
I'm sure some dude has done it somewhere... and he'll vouch that it works just fine.

look @ how much the tire is buldging compared to the front one that is properly mounted.
315s are supposed to look like this while properly mounted:
Even the fronts are 315s (click for bigger view)
and some more 315s on properly mounted wheels... no buldging:

I do see what you are saying ...but are your tires 17"or 18" and are you running 35 or 40 series?I ask this because there are two different types of wheels in some of your pics.
Oh yes and mud tires don't count j/k you got to admit those are some rough treads on the zr-1'sLast edited by maxwax; 04-14-2008 at 02:17 AM.

The Z06 wheels need new tires, and the ZR 1's had new tires on them so I put them back on until I could get new tires.

I have 275's on my 9.5, but you can fit a 315 on the 9.5.

mud tires... lol... those grip as much as Drag Radials on the straight and way more on cornering.
The thread looks a bit awkward and big chunks of rubber, great for response, and the grooves makes them good for water evacuation. Those are Yokohama A032R (2 available compounds, H and S, for hard + soft)
the 17s are 315/35-17 (same overall diameter as stock)
the 18s are 315/30-18 (same overall diameter as stock)

they fit, but not properly.
You gain nothing from it... you actually have less traction w/ a 315 on a 9" wheel vs same tire in 275 on same wheel... especially when cornering is @ stake
In the end, ppl do what they want, and learn from the mistakes... all we can do is give advice, and share some knowledge.
