265/40/18's fit ok on my 18x9.5 rims?

ok first off I dont know what happened to my account as had been a member prior than the purchase of my SS in 2001..had to re-register but any how, my two rears have nails in them and are beyond repair because of the breakdown in the sidewalls..I will get 4 new ones as soon as my fronts that I will put to the rear wear out so I need temporary fronts on my 18x9.5 Z06 knockoff rims..right now I have 285/40/18's and found a pair on new 265/40/18s locally that I could use but want to make sure they would fit ok..anyone think that would be a problem??

ps posted b4 in the tires/rims section but didnt get much response

I would just call a tire shop and ask them. Most are nice enough to answer tire size questions over the phone.

Tire manufacturers post suggested rim widths for their different model tires. No one can answer that question without knowing specific tire brand and model. And if you ask nicely they might be able to give you back your previous account.

Those tires would be a wee bit too narrow for those wheels.
