2008 Impala LTZ - Need new tires
Hey folks.
As the title states, I'm looking to get some new shoes for the daily driver.
Current tires lasted an astonishing 80,000 miles!!!
I will most likely be buying tires from Discount Tire as they are local.
Any recommendations? Car has the factory Goodyear's on it now.
I'm looking for a pretty decent tire, but something that won't break the bank either. I see their tire selections run from $150/piece all the way up into the $300's/piece.
Tire size is a 235/50R18.

80k? I'd have to say get a new set of the same type.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Crookyears, the H3 came factory with them, I got rid of them and went with Toyo's.

Cooper cs4, 780 tread wear rating. We put them on a lot of cars at work and never had a complaint.

Argee, another good tire choice and they've been around for quite sometime.
I used to run the Cooper Cobra GTS's back in the day on my old F-bodies.
Never had any issues and had excellent wet/winter characteristics.

Discount Tire does not sell Cooper or Toyo's for my car. At least on their website they don't.
Looks like the tire selection is limited to Goodyear, Yokohama, Michelin, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Pirelli, and Continental.
There really isn't any other place locally to get tires from other than NTB and Tire Barn, which I know will cost more from personal experience.

I vote Coopers as well. Had Zeons on my old Beretta and they were quite good. Have you checked out the Conti ExtremeContact DWS? I have installed them on cars and they are good. I have heard Consumer Reports raves about them.

So is everyone in agreement I need to buy tires online and pay for shipping 4 tires to my house and then haul them over to DT to be installed?
If Cooper really are better than the aforementioned tire brands Discount Tire sells, I may just do that.
I'm thinking buying tires online with shipping will be pretty pricey though, which defeats my objective with the Impala.
The Cont Extreme Contact DWS have very high ratings on their site and are a 540/50,000 mile rated tire. Price is 179/ea.

I'll call around tomorrow. Not too many choices locally. I've always had best luck just buying from DT. Thanks for the input everyone. Most likely this will happen in the next week.

Yes,, I'd go with the coopers if you can, I ran them on my FWD cars before, and they seemed better than more than a few others I had tried in that type application.
Cooper still produces the Cobra GTS in pretty much the same tread pattern as before, deep cleeted but quiet, excellent wear characteristics even with minor alignment issues.
Imho,, Good middle of the road performance tire, wet weather, snow traction, and very predictable in those conditions.
Had 5 pairs on 5 different cars on terrible PA. roads, no issues.

Whatever came stock on the car. Not sure which version of Goodyear they are without looking. The tires do still have some tread on them too lol.

thats amazing.. i think they are the integritys if i remember correctly from my days at the chevy dealer. we had so many complaints and instances of the dealership eating the cost of a new set of tires to get rid of the integritys. There was even a pile of them in the garage with very little wear that people got rid of after a few months

I know what that's like. Back when I worked for a GoodYear shop, we were pulling the Integrities off the fleet cars we dealt with and put the CS4s on. Those cars would come in with 11k on them and the front tires would be bald on the inside edges. Exposed steel cords FTL.

Last time I measured (around 65K miles), the tread depth on them was around 3/16". Some spots were lower, but that was about average. I just recently noticed traction wasn't as good as it used to be so I figured I'd ask the question before making the plunge on a new set. Tire wear is pretty even on all four corners.
To be exact, the car currently has 77,500 miles on it.
