    removing ground effects

i want to take the ground effects off my 2000 camaro. can some one that has done this please post pics of what the holes look like after you take the side skirts off? im afraid of how bad they might be and how expensive it would be to have the holes filled in.

Don't have pics but there's something like 7+ holes on each side. The car we removed them on was lowered as much as Speedlines and they were still noticeable. Didn't even mess with removing the spoiler after that.

Filling the holes and painting was gonna be pricey due to need to blend and his car being SOM.

I have ground affects on my 99Z and had thought about removing them. After talking to a body shop friend I decided it wasn't worth it.

Here's some shots of the ground effects to give you an idea.

I wouldn't mind that much if they were rs but my ground effects are a wings west kit and I feel they look ricey. Plus I've already
Had them painted a couple mounts ago and they are already chipping again they wont hold paint.
How would some one fill the holes in if they were removed? Would sheet metal have to be welded to
    Cover them up?

I have a regular ss spoiler so I wont have to worrie about removing that. Im just wondering about the side moldings
how hard would it be to fix the holes in the rocker panels? Im gonna buy new front and rear bumper covers
so I wont have to worrie about filling in holes in those areas.

My point was that if it was a big deal for me, than I can only assume it would be worse for you. I would assume it would have to be bondoed, sanded, and painted. You would basically have to paint the whole car with blending involved. It's going to be very costly to do it right. Maybe you can get your hands on an RS and just put that on there in its place.

    My thoughts as well

OP, I've had my front lip off before for paint repair, and currently have the rear valance off (for the same reason, I don't think the guy that put them on used enough, or any flex agent at all), but have never taken off the side panels.

But, over all, why I decided to just leave the kit on because it was going to be too big a deal to take it all off.

Well, here's the thing. There are kits out there that use 3M double-sided tape and screw in from the inner wheel wells. So, there is a 50/50 chance OP could be lucky enough that the kit is held on with the tape and will not need to have any holes filled. If there are holes, OP could get away with filling them with JB Weld and save up money to have the spots filled, sanded and painted. Also, it might be me, but I see that front bumper cover being the most expensive if it and the lip spoiler are one piece. That will have to be replaced altogether then primered and painted.

Actually, installation instructions recommend using both the screws and the double sided tape. Mine had both and I used both when putting them back on I doubt there were no screws/bolts used to affix the kit, but, you never know

    Unhappy

Yeah my front bumper cover is all one peice the lip and cover and it dosnt fit that well there is a gap between the bottom of the headlights and the bumper cover. But I've seen replacement front and rear bumper covers
online for 80 bucks. They seem to look good from the online pics.

Well I've been looking into having my ground effects removed. From what I see the side skirts on the rocker panels have no screws in them. The only problem is they are on there dam good, looks like bondo or some kind of adhesive and paint. One body shop quoted me 2500 with paint to remove them, f that! I'm just gonna find real y3k or rs front and rear bumper peaces and put em on I think.

The front and rear lip are actually attached by the screws and the side skirts are just tape. It just looks like one peace cause there's some sealer or bondo around the edges and paint.
