I have seen it doen before and the comments I remember was that it was allot of work.
They used a dremel to start and take off the casting marks and smooth out any ridges.
Then began sanding (using dremil and paper) gradually using a finer grit paper/tip.
Finished with a polishing compound using a power tool with a buffer pad and finishing with fine cut 'jewel' polish.

if the intake is alum. dont use a dremal it can heat/ burn up real quick before you know it. start with 350-400 grit then, 600,800,1000,1500, then finish off with 2000 or hihger. WET SAND. ( leave paper in the cup for a while before starting use)
after that use some mothers "mag- metal Polish" = $6.00 or get there top of the line stuff for 14.00 but i never used it and the reg is just as good IMO
this is hwat i did on the cheap mothers http://www.ls1.com/forums/attachment...9&d=1173656468
good luck, post pic when done
