Painting question; need help
Okay, so I painted my air lid black. Thought I put enough coats of clear on it. I let it dry for a couple of days. But still, everytime I touch it now, I leave fingerprints on it...remember...it's black. What's the best way of preping a part so that you can handle it later without leaving fingerprints or buffing streaks.

did you wetsand it? Probably will get ride of the paint streaks. Wetsand it with some 2000 grit and you should be good.

how cold of a place are you painting in?? also what kind of clear are you doing... you should first try to paint with a heater next by if it is cold the clear won't dry properly

I paint out on my porch during the day, when it's nice an warm. As far as the clear, I used high-temp engine paint for some of the parts around the engine.

Hmm, I guess the question might become..."To clear or not to clear?"

sounds like to me you need more hardener in the clear, if thats the kind of clear coat your using. clear coat is very sensitive to temp, humidity, ratio of clear to hardner, and thickness of coats. if you put it on very thick and didnt allow each coat to flash, it may just take a while to cure
